Adoptions counselors experience unique customer service situations that will not only bring variety to your days, but also the knowledge that every experience contributes to the lifesaving mission and helps the community. Adoption counselors also have an excellent opportunity to learn about animal behavior and care while educating adopters and the public and an opportunity to discover if a path in animal welfare is the right path for you. If it is, this role has access to our Pathways for Growth cross-training program that exposes employees to dog and cat shelter care, as well as opportunities for internal movement.

A fully onboarded adoption counselor will
help the adoptions team to find forever homes for an average of 80 animals week,
help the clinic by observing animals during admissions and monitoring animals in the shelter,
and have opportunities for training on animal behavior and care.

Who You Are

A successful hire for this role will be eager to learn, ready to take feedback and run with it.
They will also be empathetic with customers but know how to temper that with inner strength and objectivity.
Finally, they will be willing to problem solve but will also be highly self-aware and know their own limitations and how to ask for help.

Who We Are
Working at NHS means working for a team that is a little bit quirky but also committed to the mission and vision. It means always having someone around that wants to look at that cute photo of your cat lounging on your bed or of your happy, dirty pupper after playing at the dog park. We’ve also identified that, in addition to mental resilience, successful NHS staffers possess a sense of humor or wit and internal drive. For our adoptions staff, it also means working with a passionate team to serve customers in a setting with purpose-helping customers with pets not sales-and proactively educating pet owners to make a positive impact in our community.

Additional Details
We offer a variety of standard benefits, of course, including:

medical, vision, and dental,
401k,
and opportunities for internal movement.
