Job Description : Position Summary

**TEMPORARY POSITION**

Position Summary:
Performs clinical reviews on selected service line operating centers and discharges in accordance with the hospital’s objectives for assuring quality patient care and effective and efficient utilization of health care services. Meets with CDI team members to discuss selected cases while also performing clinical reviews on selected service line operating centers. Makes recommendations for coding changes to capture care and intensity of services as supported within the medical record documentation. Act as a subject matter expert and liaison between the CDI or HIM professional and hospital’s medical staff to facilitate accurate and complete documentation for coding and the capture of severity, acuity and risk of mortality and most accurate DRG assignment.

Job Requirement

Education/Experience: M.D. or D.O. from an accredited school of medicine and completion of a Residency from an accredited institution. Ten (10) years of medical practice experience. Experience should include five (5) years leadership responsibilities in a clinical department and training/experience in clinical improvement and patient safety.
Licensing/Certification Requirements: Valid License by State of Nevada to practice medicine. Board Certified in a clinical specialty area.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Physical Requirements

Knowledge of: CMS regulations; CDI programs in health systems and academic teaching centers; DRG payer issues, documentation opportunities, clinical documentation requirements, and referral policies and procedures; adult and pediatric care, equipment, supplies and practices; federal, state, local and accreditation laws, regulations and standards; clinical operations as well as the business operations of the hospital; principles and practices of medical care management and administration; quality assurance and performance improvement principles and methods; department and hospital safety practice and procedures; patient rights; age specific patient care practices; infection control policies and practices; handling, storage, use and disposal of hazardous materials; department and hospital emergency response policies and procedures.
Skill in: Analyze complex systems and processes, synthesize relevant theories, principles and evidence and determine solutions challenging problems; translating broad strategies into specific objectives and initiatives; directing strategic planning and development; developing systems that enable learning and adaptation to drive improvement and achievement of goals; identifying and proselytizing effective strategies that exist in other areas of the hospital to increase performance and productivity; developing and monitoring capital and operating budgets; developing goals, objectives, policies and procedures; applying leadership techniques; making effective decisions under stress and emergency circumstances; developing programs; solving problems; communicating with a wide variety of people from diverse socio-economic and ethnic backgrounds; establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with all personnel contacted in the course of duties; efficient, effective and safe use of equipment.
Physical Requirements and Working Conditions: Mobility to work in a typical office setting and use standard equipment, stamina to remain seated and maintain concentration for extended periods of time; vision to read printed materials and a VDT screen; hearing and speech to communicate effectively in-person and over the telephone. Strength and agility to exert up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
