Position : Development Director

Job Description : ​​Position Summary:
The Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing all of CORE’s fundraising initiatives with the support of a collaborative and mission-driven team. The Director works closely with the Chief Executive Officer, Board of Trustees, and the Communications team in all development and fundraising endeavors.
Description of Position:

Establish a long-term development strategy and annual development plan to support that strategy as well as CORE’s strategic plan.
Meet prospective donors and supporters on a continual basis to establish trust and mission-driven relationships through the lens of equity, inclusion, and mutual respect.
Develop and grow a major gifts program including identification, cultivation, and solicitation of major donors.
Oversee grant seeking including research, proposal writing, and reporting requirements in partnership with a contracted grant writer and the Data & Grants Manager.
Develop and build the annual fund program based on current and future programming with an emphasis on recurring donations and annual fundraising initiatives.
Build a planned giving program with a focus on deferred gifts such as bequest expectancies.
Direct capital campaigns and other major fundraising drives in partnership with The Dot Connector and outside consultants.
Manage and coordinate small-scale quarterly fund- and friend-raising special events with the support of the Programming, Operations, and Communications Team.
Work closely with the CEO and Board of Trustees.
Make public appearances/accept speaking engagements to share information about CORE with the community.
Oversee fundraising CRM and stewardship including the input of data and running reports.
Supervise and collaborate with fundraising and communications staff.
Maintain gift recognition programs.
Demonstrate professional conduct and seek out professional development opportunities to stay relevant in the development space.
Coordinate, organize, and facilitate weekly development meetings for the team.
Work with The Dot Connector to identify potential donors, create donor engagement plans, and steward current relationships.
Manage the annual giving campaigns, cultivation of major gifts, and setup of the planned giving program.
Develop promotional materials such as brochures, reports, quarterly newsletters, and e-newsletters in partnership with the Communications Manager.
Prepare an annual calendar of all direct mail solicitations, writing, and mailing all written funds/contribution requests.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications and Qualities:

Strong interpersonal and writing skills.
Have knowledge and experience in fundraising techniques, particularly in major gift fundraising.
Possess the skills to work with and motivate staff, board members, and other volunteers.
Have the desire to get out of the office and build external relationships based on new opportunities and institutional history while also maintaining administrative and support functions to ensure the success of the Development Department.
Be a “self-starter” and goal-driven to initiate donor visits and outreach.
Be organized and exhibit high levels of “follow through” on tasks and goals.
Understand how to utilize a CRM platform and continue to seek ways to integrate the CRM into the daily operations and function of fundraising.
Display a growth mindset, positive attitude, practicality, self-confidence, and view all fundraising opportunities through the lens of asset-based community development.

Preferred Qualifications and Qualities:

A bachelor’s degree in communications, non-profit management, public affairs, or public administration.
A minimum of five (5) years experience in professional fundraising with management experience.
Prior sales, community affairs, event planning, and/or marketing experience with a background in managing people and projects.
CFRE certification preferred.
Experience in communications or marketing.
Experience with residents in high-poverty neighborhoods.
Working knowledge of education and social services best practices, and local landscape.
Familiarity with Salesforce.
