Position Summary:
This position is responsible for the coordinating, planning, and provision of instructional and administrative leadership to the education staff and students of the RSIC community. Directs implementation of instructional programs; approves of individual education assistance for student(s); maintains management information; oversees facility acquisition and maintenance; program development and administration; prepares and administers multiple budgets; contracts for services and other agreements; provides liaison with Washoe School District, community agencies, parents, the public, and performs all other related duties.
Duties:

Accountable for the forecasting, developing, recommending, and administering comprehensive education programs utilizing internal and external resources to meet the specific and general educational needs of the Reno-Sparks Indian Colony members consistent with the goal of economic self-sufficiency and community development.
Coordinate program interests with other Indian education programs that provide services to Native American students. (i.e., Title V, Nevada Urban Indians, Bureau of Indian

Affairs Higher Educational and Adult Vocational Educational programs, Johnson
O’Malley, etc.)

Develop and administer a student tracking system and generate reports for various audiences; general reports to the RSIC Tribal Council on progress or problems that impede students’ academic success, specific and confidential reports to students’ parents/guardians, related social services as required by ordinance, law, or regulation.
Insure that tribal members are assisted with the admission process and financial aid application process for higher education and adult vocational training programs through the Higher Education Advisor.
Coordinate with key staff at various institutions of higher learning – Universities, Junior

Colleges, and certified vocational education programs in admissions, eligibility requirements, and financial aid.

Organize with Washoe County School District staff, teachers, counselors, and administrators, a successful educational experience for RSIC children while enrolled in the public-school system.
Accountable for the administration of program budgets, including but not limited to, the development and submission of annual budgets, project development costing, forecasting of expenses, and related budgetary duties.
Collaboratively interact with tribal education committees and the RSIC community through various meeting venues ranging from public to individual conferences.

Accountable for drafting, editing, formatting, and submitting reports to the Tribal
Council, community committees and funding agencies as required.

Responsible for the supervision of Education Program staff, consistent with RSIC personnel policies, procedures, and generally accepted practices.
Will coordinate activities between subordinate staff to insure the consistent and integrated provision of services consistent with the program’s goals and objectives relative to a balanced and successful education program.
Related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from a recognized college or university with a Bachelor of Arts/Science

Degree in Education, Childhood Development, Social Work or other related fields with five years of successful administration of similar program. A master’s degree in
Education or related field is preferred. work experience or any relevant combination of experience and training, which would indicate possession of the required knowledge, abilities, and skills listed in this job description.

The incumbent must have demonstrated collaborative leadership skills; possess solid communication skills; and show creative and visionary capabilities.
Must possess demonstrated successful in-depth knowledge of the fiscal and administrative operations of an education program including business management, budget, purchasing, personnel management, and other related duties.
Demonstrated knowledge of the Indian community, its culture, and educational needs and issues.
Demonstrated knowledge of the goals of successful education and service programs.
Must accept confidentiality as a strict condition of employment.
Must have reliable transportation and a valid Nevada Driver’s License.
Able to pass background checks and be bonded
Must be proficient in operating various computer-based programs (i.e., MS Word, Excel, etc.)
Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing at various levels of interaction ranging from individuals, community-based organizations to government entities.
Preference to qualified Indians will be given.

PLEASE NOTE: Hiring preference will be given to qualified tribal members of Reno-Sparks Indian Colony followed by
members of other federally recognized tribes. Must pass and comply with the HR Policy 164.905- PL101.630. The Reno-
Sparks Indian Colony requires a designated candidate to successfully complete a pre-employment drug screen, criminal
background check, and confirmation of professional references and certifications.
