Position : Ethnographer/Analyst
Job Description : Researcher/analyst positions are typically project-based. We work with individuals with project-relevant skills and experience, including location. Significant experience in social science research—in-person conversational research—is a plus. Experience in qualitative analysis of cultural data (conversations, media, social media, etc.) as well as survey research expertise is valuable. We also encourage applications from those who bring diverse experience in issues advocacy, activism, community organizing and other forms of public outreach and engagement.
Some positions require fieldwork while others are designed for virtual work.
A typical Topos project explores and analyzes how Americans think about topics related to various important public interest issues (economic, environmental, cultural, etc.), and entails a combination of research methods including field ethnography, open-ended surveys, in-depth interviewing (by phone and in person), online group discussions, and so on. Analysts and researchers help gather this data, and help develop the insights and advice that let our clients understand and change public perspectives.
Topos analyst and researcher roles are temporary, project-based positions that enlist individuals based on their availability and interest, their unique set of skills and experience, and their location. Topos is a networked organization with staff nationwide, and we welcome those who desire or require flexible schedules. These positions are ideal for graduate students, faculty and others who have training in social science research, but we also encourage those who bring diverse experience in issues advocacy, activism, community organizing and other forms of public outreach and engagement.
