Job Description : General Purpose:
Holland & Hart’s IP group is a growing practice area within the firm devoted to identifying, creating, protecting, and enforcing the intellectual property assets of our clients. Our teams provide innovative and practical legal solutions to help our clients plan and execute an integrated strategic approach to the management of all their intellectual property assets. As a Program Manager on the IP Operations team, you will have the opportunity to drive docketing strategy, manage external vendor relationships, implement an analytics program, and help run a critical risk management function for a large group of patent practitioners.
As a Program Manager you will work on managing the patent docketing program, improving the quality and efficiency of the docketing process, ensuring that our standards and controls are robust and lead to an increase in the speed and accuracy of services delivered by the department. You will be asked to lead strategic initiatives with our service vendors and software providers to add automation, predictability, and transparency to the docketing process. As part of this role, you will work closely with the Group Operations Executives, Practice Group Leaders, Patent Attorneys/Agents, Patent Paralegals, IP Specialists, Vendors, and other internal operations teams at the firm.
Candidates may also be considered for a 100% remote schedule within the Holland & Hart office footprint of Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, Nevada, Washington DC, Virginia, Maryland, or Alaska.
Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
Devise, document and implement processes to process a large volume of deadlines, notifications, and ad-hoc requests for a global patent portfolio
Regularly communicate with the management team regarding the program’s status and any problems or potential problems
Analyze data and internal client requirements to route projects to various existing/new vendors
Identify areas for process improvement and design programs to achieve efficiency and accuracy for the IP docketing program
Partner with internal and external subject matter experts to continuously update docketing standards manual and disseminate changes to vendors
Implement system to measure vendor performance and create standard metrics for management review
Proactively scan the market for new vendors and technologies to improve the efficiency of the department and lower costs
Create and refine metrics by which docketing accuracy and speed are measured
Partner with subject matter experts to, or independently, conduct audits of internal/external work product to assess quality and error rate
Lead special projects related to attorney and client onboarding/offboarding, portfolio reviews and RFP’s
Perform other related duties as assigned by Group Operations Executive
Assist with the preparation of annual docketing department budget
Provide quarterly reports to Group Operations Executive on progress of initiatives and other metrics
Job Qualifications (Education, Experience and Certification):
Bachelor’s degree or at least three years of program management, patent prosecution or IP docketing experience
Strong executive presence, ability to present to a senior audience and convey a data-driven report in an easily digestible manner
Experience with vendor management and negotiation; ability to define KPI’s to measure performance and hold vendors accountable
Strong program management skills and a track record of delivering high visibility and high impact programs
Experience with Power BI, Tableau, or other analytics platforms
Comfortable running multiple projects concurrently
Customer service orientation and dedication to solving problems; self-managed mindset
Prior Patent Prosecution or IP Docketing experience HIGHLY preferred but not mandatory
Strong supervisory/leadership skills and the ability to work across the organization
Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines
Ability to function well in a high-paced and high-pressure environment
Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite or related software
Experience with Foundation IP highly desirable
Superior attention to detail

Physical Requirements:

Holland & Hart offers of employment take into consideration a candidate’s education, training, and experience, as well as the position’s work location, external market and internal value, including seniority and merit systems, and internal pay alignment when determining the salary level for potential new employees. CO salary range $80,919.39-$134,865.66. A discretionary bonus may be available based upon performance.
