Job Description : Job Title – Laboratory Support Technician – GFNV Quality

The Role

Tesla is looking for a highly motivated laboratory support technician to assist in routine quality testing, material and chemical sample preparation, and support failure analysis processes for a vehicle manufacturing quality lab within Gigafactory Reno. In this role you would work closely with senior lab test technicians under the guidance of lab management to perform material and chemical analysis with the highest standards of safety, quality, and output. The work environment is demanding, fast-paced and incredibly exciting. The ideal candidate should be ready to push their limits, as they join a highly motivated and capable team.

Responsibilities

Work with a team of materials engineers and test technicians performing routine quality and failure analysis testing in a 24×7 vehicle manufacturing quality laboratory
Perform analysis and inspection of Technical Cleanliness on functionally relevant materials and components
Perform a variety of routine testing on Drive Unit and Battery Module associated materials following established procedures including:
Visual microscope-assisted inspections and dimensional measurements Mechanical properties testing including tensile and shear strength Particulate contamination Wide variety of other critical routine testing
Support senior lab staff in failure analysis investigations and drive to achieve accurate results as quickly as possible, all while ensure clear and timely communication of results
Interpret test data and generate test reports
Provide input for the continued improvement of lab practices and procedures
Maintain inventory of consumable supplies
Perform preventative maintenance on equipment as required
Support the Company’s mission, vision, values, and goals in performance of daily activities

Minimum Qualifications:

1+ year experience working in a quality environment
BSc in Chemistry or other related science.
Able to work both independently and in a collaborative project-focused environment, prompt and dependable, and excellent verbal and written communication skills
Detail oriented, excels at performing repetitive tasks where both high degrees of accuracy and precision are required.
Comfortable working with chemicals and hazardous materials in a laboratory environment.
Be both capable and willing to perform all the various manual tasks involved with lab work, such as safely moving heavy objects, moving large pallets with a pallet jack, handling incoming materials, etc.
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

Demonstrated expertise in physical materials analysis and associated quality controls
0-1 years practical experience with chemical analysis (GC/MS, ICP-OES, IC, titration, pH)
Previous experience with at least two of these equipment:
Ultra-high accuracy digital microscopes. (Example: Keyence VHX, VR, and VKX) FTIR and Spark Optical Emission Spectroscopy Metallography Instron mechanical test systems Calipers Micrometers Analytical Balances Scanning Electron Microscopes Technical Cleanliness Extractors
Prior experience with vehicle manufacturing and associated materials testing
Use of laboratory information management systems
