About the Position

Independently conducts routine and non-routine analyses of geological samples. Uses correct

methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules while ensuring analytical
quality.

Specific Responsibilities

Operate and perform maintenance on ICP, AA & SIE instruments;
Perform wet assay analytical works including gravimetric and volumetric analyses;
Perform Umpire and Control analyses;
Prepare sample dilutions, instrument operating solutions and calibration standards;
Test and evaluate calibration standards;
Calculate results using Microsoft Excel spreadsheet; comparing
standard values and checks to ensure accuracy;

Evaluate and approve data using GEMS and perform data co-relation on Webview;
Identify and correct QC related problems by ensuring the quality of the analytical data meets ALS standards;
Organize workload according to daily stats and turnaround commitments in the absence of T3, supervisor and manager;
Follow up on rush priority work orders;
Perform technician approval for analytical runs;
Effectively liaise within department and Vancouver lab to communicate safety, quality and operational issues;
Ensure all work instructions and standard working procedures are strictly adhered to;
In conjunction with the supervisor, perform tests to modify and improve analytical procedures;
Assist in training new employees;
Maintain and organize inventory of supplies;
Maintain and organize equipment and other ISO document records;
Maintain a clean and safe work environment by following all safety requirements within the Safety Manual and communicating all safety concerns to the Manager.
Ensure storage of hazardous waste in accordance with regulated health & safety procedures;
Use correct methods in accordance with the established procedures and schedules
while ensuring analytical quality;

Observe established safety regulations and comply with all ALS health and safety
policies and procedures;

Other duties as assigned.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Strong analytical skills and wet assay techniques;
Quality focused individual; Commitment to Excellence, Team Leader;
Organized, highly motivated, detail oriented and able to work both independently and as part of a team;
Ability to effectively handle a high volume of work and time critical issues;
Excellent English communication skills (written and verbal);
Strong MS Office skills, specifically MS Word, Excel and Outlook.
Required Qualifications

Diploma or Degree in Chemical Sciences or Technology preferred but not required. Maintain annual recertification for the disposal of hazardous waste.
Physical Demands

Ability to lift up to 50lbs;
Ability to work within a hot and dusty environment;
Ability to stand and/or sit for up to 8 hours per day;
Manual dexterity to perform repetitive tasks.
Ability to sit at a desk and do general office work, which includes periodic sedentary responsibilities
