Our people division is growing, and we are looking for a Legal Assistant I with our Legal Team. The successful candidate is responsible for perform a variety of administrative duties for General Counsel in areas of Compliance, Safety and Legal Regulations, requiring knowledge of Company policies and procedures.

Responsibilities:
Work independently, exercising initiative, discretion and judgment and making appropriate decisions within the scope of assigned responsibility. Must be able to handle multiple tasks. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is required
Research and draft correspondence to the Federal Mine Safety & Health Review Commission Office of Administrative Law Judges
Research, compile and prepare data for reports and presentations
Direct correspondence with the government agencies of Mine Safety and Health Administration, Civil Penalty Assessment Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and corporate and regional in-house legal team. Type forms for state and federal reporting requiring the ability to read, comprehend and interpret forms and insert appropriate information
Assist with MSHA compliance litigation and agency management
Read, comprehend and interpret MSHA regulations. Maintain current MSHA and Nevada State mine site Legal Identity forms and legal commencement of operation documents
Maintain certain files including all citation files, Nevada State Contractor’s Board, Nevada and local business licenses and pay all mine citations and track and calendar contested citations. Maintain records of citations and assessments for each mine site and prepare reports as required by regulatory agencies and management
Create and maintain departmental legal filing system for assessments, petitions and correspondence with the office of assessments and solicitor’s office. Create, maintain and update other department files and records
Organize, collate, and bind materials requiring extreme attention to detail and legal timing deadlines. Perform copying, collating, binding, packaging, etc. and disseminate routine and other documents as requested by department personnel including mail/messenger/meeting preparations
Read, comprehend and interpret legal documents and calendar due dates, court dates and events
Coordinate appointments, meetings and conferences including outside legal contact.
Assist with preparation for all Legal Department meetings, depositions, and litigation scheduling matters
Compose correspondence, edit documents and if necessary, take and transcribe minutes of meetings
Receive and screen telephone calls and assist with incoming inquiries, using knowledge of Company policies and procedures. Receive and review all mail and determine what needs to be brought to the attention of the manager
Serve as a liaison between executives, representatives, and business associates
Handle confidential and time sensitive material with tact and discretion
Resolve problems requiring knowledge of Company policies and procedures and ongoing projects
Coordinate complex projects and assignments as requested
Supervise preparation and monitoring of the Legal Department budget

Qualifications:
Degree in Business or related field preferred
3 years’ work experience as legal or executive assistant is required
Executive/administrative assistant experience or equivalent combination of training and experience are required
Advanced knowledge of legal procedures, formatting and preparing legal documents, court filings and responses required
Advanced computer skills preferred
Advanced knowledge of office equipment preferred
Office professionalism required
Excellent written and verbal communication skills required
