Job Description
The School of Public Health at the University of Nevada, Reno, is seeking temporary instructors for its online Master of Public Health (MPH) program. Online Instructors provide support to students in assigned course(s), posting weekly and as-needed announcements, interacting with students, answering course-related questions, and participating in discussions. Instructors grade all required assignments using grading rubrics provided in the courses, and upload the final course grades to the University’s student portal system. The time commitment is approximately 8 hours per week (on average) per course. The online MPH Program in Public Health Practice operates year-round, with three semesters per year (Spring, Summer, Fall). The program needs part-time instructors for a variety of public health courses, including:

Research Methods
Biostatistics
Epidemiology
Epidemiologic Surveillance
Data Management and Analysis
Environmental Health
Social and Behavioral Health
Program Development (Planning and Evaluation)
Health Policy
Public Health Finance
Organizational Behavior and Leadership
Public Health Law
GIS
Project Management Principles
Emergency Preparedness.

Responsibilities

Instruct the course and assist students in their achievement of course objectives.
Log in at least daily Monday through Friday each week to interact with students and monitor course activity.
Moderate and guide student interactions in course-related work and discussions.
Respond to student emails, requests or questions in a timely manner, usually within 24 hours.
Act as the first line of response for student inquiries regarding curriculum-related issues.
Mentor and assist students by communicating with them via email, Zoom and discussions on the course web site as needed.
Contact the Lead Instructor for clarification if assistance is required.
Monitor and participate in discussions with students to enhance their learning experience.
At least one week prior to course start date, Instructors should review all course material, post a welcome announcement, provide updated contact information, and set online office hours.
Post weekly announcements and other announcements as needed.
Grade assignments, quizzes and exams submitted by students. Grading with constructive personalized feedback should be completed in a timely fashion, usually no later than one week of the assignment due date.
Post final course grades within five days of the final course date.
Participate in meetings with the Lead Instructor if applicable.

Required Qualifications
Candidates must hold a master’s degree (preferably in public health)

Preferred Qualifications
Candidates with a PhD in Public Health or DrPH are encouraged to apply.
Candidates with experience in online teaching in Canvas LMS and professional experience in the course topic area are encouraged to apply.

Schedule
May teach up to two courses per semester, at $4000 per course.
The time commitment is approximately 8 hours per week (on average) per course.
