Job Description : The Role:
We are looking for a Planning Assistant to support our Land Development and Community Services Department in performing professional level work in the field of planning; and provides information and assistance to City officials, City staff, developers, the business community and the public on planning, zoning and development related matters in person or over the telephone.

Key Focus of the Role:
(Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)

Provides customer service to City officials, City staff, citizens and developers; responds to questions by phone or from walk-ins.
Enters applications pertaining to planning and zoning into the computer system.
Assists in coordinating plan review and approval process for applicants with Planning and zoning, Engineering, Fire, and other concerned City departments.
Prepares legal notices to be published in the newspaper for public hearings.
Performs parcel searches and sends out public hearing notices to property owners.
Reviews business license applications for the Planning and Zoning Department.
Assists in the research and writing of staff reports.
Reviews applications to ensure that they are complete and appropriate.
Reviews plans for compliance with code enforcement.
Reviews building permit applications to ensure compliance with Zoning Ordinance requirements.
Prepares files to be microfilmed.
Creates location and zoning maps for public hearings using ArcView.
Performs other duties as required.

Qualifications and Attributes:

Associate Degree from an accredited college or university in one of the following fields of study: civil engineering, architecture, construction technology, planning OR a related technical / social field of study such as surveying OR real estate And at least two (2) years of practical experience working in a civil engineering or architecture environment. (Required)
Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with a major concentration in civil engineering, architecture, landscape architecture, planning, geography or a related technical / social field of study. (Preferred)

Equivalency: Minimum of four (4) years working experience in a planning capacity in a civil engineering or architecture environment. (Required)

Prior experience working in Municipal Government (Preferred)
Prior experience utilizing GIS (Preferred)
Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
