Job Description : Responsibilities

Basic Purpose

Responsible for wholesale buying and selling of electric energy; acquisition of transmission capacity to facilitate the physical delivery and receipt associated with the purchase and sale of electric energy, and the economic dispatch of the Company’s generation facilities, scheduling of energy deliveries, and coordination of energy deliveries with control area operators.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

1. Continuously monitors the electric energy markets to maintain a working knowledge of price, availability, and demand for electric energy within the interconnected electric systems.

2. Negotiates the best price, considering alternative sources and available transmission paths, and arranges for the purchase of energy.

3. Actively pursues and negotiates wholesale marketing and brokering opportunities.

4. Locates and arranges for the use of transmission capacity to allow for the delivery of energy bought and sold.

5. Actively coordinates all fuel and purchased power decisions to optimize the system’s economic dispatch.

6. Provides an hourly record of sales, purchases and transmission interchange energy transactions.

7. Performs related duties as assigned.

Requirements

Education and Work Experience
Bachelors degree and 0-3 years of experience in energy marketing and trading or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Specialized Knowledge and Skills
Ability to understand electric system operations, generation production cost modeling, the Western Electric Coordinating Council (WECC) interconnected transmission system, NERC and WECC regulations/guidelines and the Western Systems Power Pool agreements.

Equipment and Applications
PCs, word processing, spreadsheet and database software.

Work Environment and Physical Demands

Works a rotating shift schedule to cover 24×7 operations which includes nights, weekends and holidays.
No special physical demands required. General office environment.

Compensation

Annual Salary: $72,500.00 (Min) to $85,300.00 (Mid); Up to 15% Short Term Incentive Plan target opportunity at the discretion of the company. This is a non-represented position.
