Position : Rail Manager
Job Description : We are seeking applicants for the position of Rail Manager at our rail terminal located in Detroit, MI.DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIESPre-Shift Reports-Ensure all morning reports are sent in a timely manner.Yard Inspectors- Ensure your Yard Inspectors have their daily work duties and any necessary items to complete their work. Continuous briefings throughout the day will be necessary.Rail/Shuttle Crews-Assign daily work/special instructions and conduct shift briefings. Monitor production and quality to ensure all work is completed timely and in a safe manner.Hot Units-Ensure all hot units are handed out for the days loading to the crews and supervisors. Note reason why any hot units did not get loaded with reason why and turn in to Office Manager.Sick bay/IR-Physically check and record units. Note any issues and turn into the Office Manager.Quality-Ensure all work performed to RCS/AAR and manufacturer standards.Daily Audits-All units unloaded will be audited. An audit will be performed on 5 outbound railcars every day and turned into the Terminal Manager. All units bayed up will be audited daily. All audits will be in accordance with AAR and RCS standards.Walking the yard-Yard will be walked after every shift to ensure no exceptions are in the load lanes.Payroll-Ensure time sheets and payroll sheets are filled out properly and sent before COB.Attendance-Attendance sheets will be filled out when employees call off/arrive late/ leave early with proper comments are needed.End of shift reports-Ensure all reports are completed correctly and sent out. Railcars will be RSA in earlier than noon, Rail Quest will be contacted at the completion of all RSA’s.Shift turn over-Ensure proper scheduling for the next shifts is set up. Send email out notifying everyone on work plans.Discipline –Issue discipline using the standards in National contract and local rider.Proper reporting of any issue in the yardAny other tasks provided by Regional/Terminal ManagerQUALIFICATIONSGood organizational & communication skillsAbility to work under minimal supervisionNo experience necessary. We will trainGeneral knowledge of railroad operations is a plus.Ability to delegate/prioritize & complete assigned dutiesREQUIREDBasic computer skills (including Microsoft Office programs)Must have better than high school education or equal work experienceMust have worked continuously in the last 6 monthsValid Driver’s licenseAbility to pass E-rail Safe background checkAbility to work off shift and weekends a must.PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORK ENVIRONMENTThe Rail Manager position will primarily be working in the rail yard in all- weather situations.
