Job Description : The Role:
We are looking for a Recreation Leader to support Silver Mesa within our Neighborhood and Leisure Services Department. This position is responsible for implementing and coordinates the day-to-day programming of recreation facilities, including Adaptive, Safekey, Seniors, Sports, Special Events, Golf Course, Aquatics and other programs and/or varied recreational activities.

Key Focus of the Role:
(Duties may include, but are not limited to, the following)

Organize a variety of recreation activities at City recreation facilities.
Assist in the organization and implementation of new programs and prepare reports tracking program expenses, program participants, and evaluations of programs.
Prepare facility/program registration procedures, conduct registration, and schedule teams/ classes/events.
Coordinates and implements program/facility volunteers to ensure efficient organization and completeness of work.
Receive, tabulate and account for fees and other money received.
Evaluate programs to include scheduling, specifying policies and procedures, equipment, manpower and other resources; implement short-term activities and special projects; assist in the development and implementation of program and operational objectives for the facility or program.
Requisition or obtain needed materials and supplies.
Receive and deal with requests, complaints or concerns from the public; provide conflict-resolution within area of responsibility.
Maintain communications with the various user groups to assure effective use of facilities and programs.
Prepare reports, memos and correspondence concerning area of responsibility.
Schedule the work of part-time and support staff, instructors and volunteer workers; instruct staff in work procedures and ensure adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Provide assistance to staff; inspect work being performed; identify problem areas and direct remedial actions.
Promote recreation and parks programs and activities in the community; communicate with citizens and program participants.
Order, inventory and account for the use of all program supplies and equipment.
May participate in large special events as a member of the planning team or steering committee.
Maintain and submit records and reports; handle money and make up deposits; organize registration forms and medical forms; review and submit incident reports.
Perform related duties as required.

Qualifications and Attributes:
Education and Experience:

Two years college or university with course study in recreation, physical education or closely related field, and
Two years of recent work experience in the coordination of recreation programs/recreational activities, physical education or closely related field.

Equivalency: Four years of recent work experience in the coordination of recreation programs/recreational activities, physical education or closely related field OR possession of a Bachelor’s Degree in Recreation, Physical Education or closely related field may be substituted for the education and experience required above.

Licenses and Certifications:

Must possess a valid state driver’s license and maintain satisfactory motor vehicle record and ability to obtain appropriate Nevada state driver’s license within required time frame.
Valid First Aid Certification at time of application.
Valid CPR Certification at time of application.

Knowledge of:

Modern principles and practices of recreation and leisure services
Rules and regulations for various games/events.

Skills:

Use tact, discretion, initiative and independent judgment within established guidelines.
Organize work, setting priorities, meeting critical deadlines, and follow up on assignments with a minimum of direction.
Apply logical thinking to solve problems or accomplish tasks; understand, interpret and communicate complicated policies, procedures and protocols.
Good mathematical skills.
Communicate clearly and effectively, both orally and in writing.
Plan, organize, assign, direct, review and evaluate the work of assigned staff.
Select and motivate staff and provide for their training and professional development.
Prepare clear and concise reports, correspondence and other written materials.
