What You’ll Be DoingAs the leader of Spanish instruction, the primary responsibility of the Spanish Teacher is to effectively instruct students in a manner that supports pilotED’s academic model of holistic education. The Spanish Teacher is accountable for students’ academic performance, high quality Spanish instruction, and will receive extensive coaching to ensure that all standards are being met. The Spanish Teacher will report directly to the School Principal with support from the Assistant Principal.
Roles/Responsibilities
Instructional

Effectively plan and deliver daily lessons which align to school wide academic plans and cover all required academic standards;
Create a safe and respectful classroom culture through effective classroom management and positive behavior techniques;
Work cooperatively with Specials teammates (Environment teacher, Health and Fitness Teacher) to monitor and adjust instructional and behavioral programming;
Support classroom instruction by pulling small groups of students for targeted lessons.

Non-Instructional

Supervise students during non-instructional time (e.g. recess, lunch);
Support the administration of school-wide and state-mandated assessments;
Communicate with parents; when necessary, facilitate communication between staff and limited English-speaking (Spanish-speaking) parents;
Participate in weekly observation and coaching sessions;
Attend and participate in all school professional development opportunities;
Support school community through participation in community events and/or civic engagement opportunities;
Lead school-wide Latino Culture and Heritage Events;
Create and manage extracurricular Spanish programs during and/or after school.

Knowledge/Skill Requirements

At least two of the following are required: Bachelor’s degree in Education is required, Bachelor’s degree in Spanish is highly preferred, 2+ years of full-time teaching experience, and/or standard teaching certification;
Ability to attend annual summer off-site professional development;
Understanding of state and federal requirements specific to your position;
Ability to assess grade level needs in order to plan and organize accordingly;
Demonstrated experience in the successful instruction of students with varied learning styles and levels of mastery;
Expert-level written and oral communication skills;
Strong interpersonal and team building skills;
Strong ability to work with flexibility;
Excellent organization skills and consistency in meeting deadlines;
Experience working in urban environments;
Strong knowledge of pedagogy and experience teaching strategies to support all learners;
Microsoft Office and Google Suite proficiency;
Knowledge of Latino culture and heritage and comfortability sharing this knowledge;
Language: English, Spanish language proficiency required;
Physical Requirements: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk and hear. The employee frequently is required to sit and reach with hands and arms. The employee is frequently required to stand and walk. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus;
Must pass all federal and state background checks.
