Job Description : The Role
The Tesla START Instructor position requires someone with exceptional ability to assess needs, develop & deliver learning solutions for a wide range of skills, abilities, and experiences, develop and maintain strong partnerships with internal and external partners. Individuals must be exceptional classroom facilitators, creative, proactive, organized, flexible, results-oriented, and have a passion for teaching others. Must have outstanding communication, people management, and organizational skills while demonstrating a positive and professional demeanor. The START Instructor is responsible for managing the day-to-day relationship with our local academic partners, all aspects of the START academic experience, and ensuring START participants are effectively equipped and managed to take their place as Maintenance Technicians at Gigafactory Nevada.
Responsibilities
Partner with both college & START faculty to identify, recruit, onboard, and train START program participants.
Manage 10-15 START participants with the highest level of professionalism to prepare them to take on full-time roles at Gigafactory Nevada.
Develop site-specific learning plans to ensure requirements of both Tesla and academic partners are met for all employees.
Develop and deliver technical learning solutions equipping service employees to perform roles safely and to Tesla standards.
Teach and facilitate participant learning of all START curriculum with an eye for continuous process improvement. Topics will include Lean Principles, AC-DC Electronics, Motor Controls & PLC, Schematics Reading, Mechanical, Fabrication and Conveyance, Robotics, EOA Tooling, and Safety.
Provide ongoing coaching and support to START participants, alumni, and recruits to ensure the Tesla mindset is modeled and effectively applied across the program.
Serve as functioning member of the Tesla Technical Training team.
Develop new START curriculum in close consultation with Tesla Technical Training, Maintenance, and Engineering organizations.
Ensure that programs and processes are developed, assessed, communicated, and administered in compliance with Tesla’s objectives. Provide comprehensive tracking of each student’s completed and required training in Tesla specific Learning Management system.
Manage the operations of the START location including, but not limited to: tooling/equipment maintenance, location set-up, scheduling, communications, safety, etc..
Requirements
Demonstrated ability to collaborate and serve as partner to academic institutions.
Demonstrated ability to both teach and coach as a means to facilitate others’ learning.
Extensive presentation skills with diverse advanced technical content as described above.
Strong ability to work and communicate effectively with team and peers within the Training, Maintenance, and Engineering organizations.
Uses instructional media such as audio-visual (video, PowerPoint, YouTube. etc.) and hands-on equipment
Able to read and interpret mechanical drawings and electrical schematics.
Experience with environmental and safety requirements including the NFPA 70E.
Strong ability to work in cross-functional groups from diverse technical and experience backgrounds.
Skilled with common workplace and database software (Powerpoint, Excel, Word, Outlook)
Ability to work in a fast-paced, flexible environment.
