Position Details
Title : VBISD Administrator of Emergency Management
Reports To : VBISD Superintendent
Job Goal(s) : The primary job goal of the Administrator of Emergency Management is to assure the safety and security of all VBISD students, staff, and visitors as well as our constituent districts while working on proactive & preventative models of intervention to preempt emergencies from occurring.

Qualifications :
Education :
Bachelor’s degree preferred with specific coursework/seminars in emergency management, education and communications.
Certification :
**Hold current certification as a State of Michigan Professional Emergency Manager (PEM). Hold completion certificates for NIMS courses, ICS 100, 200, 300, 400, 700, 800. Hold American Heart Association CPR Instructor credentials.
** Note – If the applicant selected for the position does not currently hold the current certification requirements, they will have 18 months from the date of hire to complete them.
Work Experience : Three years working in emergency management. School employment experience preferred.
Skills :
Strong interpersonal communication skills, including the ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies.
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Ability to read, analyze and interpret professional journals, financial reports and legal documents.
Ability to effectively present information to groups and individuals.
Identify, organize, prioritize and schedule multiple job responsibilities.
Carry out responsibilities with limited supervision.
Familiarity with the community and community resources.
Culturally competent.
Essential Job Functions :
Oversee the creation and management of the VBISD Emergency Operations Plan
Provide direct supervision of Crisis Management Coordinators
Provide Emergency Management Services to county and out of county stakeholders
Incident commander at actual school emergencies
Oversee and create emergency response training and grants
Seek out and write grants for emergency management projects
Work collaboratively with all members of the administrative team
Partner with countywide trainers and responders of Critical Incident Stress Management and Crisis Prevention Institute
Keep VBISD staff appraised of hazards
Work as the VBISD representative at the Van Buren County Emergency Operations Center
Lead a systemic system to perform countywide behavioral threat assessments
Coordinate and hold CPR training for VBISD, local school districts, and local stakeholders
Plan and execute emergency response exercises
Lead by example using VBISD guiding principles: Respect, Integrity, Compassion and Excellence
Oversee and create financial budget for the Crisis Management department
Regular and reliable, in person attendance
Other duties as assigned
Terms of Employment :
Classification: Administrator
Work Day: 7.5-8 hours per day
Work Year: 215-220 days per year
