Job Description : Overview:
The Admissions Specialist reports to the Associate Director of Recruitment within the Admissions Office at Utah State University. Admissions Specialists are assigned a “territory” and are responsible for recruitment efforts within that territory. These include contact with potential students, junior college visits, open houses, college fairs, and other activities associated with successful recruiting practices (i.e., information sessions, on- and off-campus recruitment activities, as well as other duties as assigned). Because recruitment at Utah State is a team effort, candidates will be instrumental in providing team leadership in recruiting targeted student populations, exploring/identifying potential growth markets, and building relationships among all USU campuses and colleges. In addition, this position will be responsible for coordinating USU recruitment efforts on the Logan campus as a part of the overall USU recruitment team.
Responsibilities:
As a member of the recruitment team, the successful applicant will coordinate recruitment activities to identify and contact prospective students and other specified populations, provide them with information about the University, assist them through the admissions and scholarship application processes, and facilitate their enrollment. Specific populations may include multicultural, first-generation, Eastern campus students, concurrent enrollment, post-traditional, transfer, etc.
Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications:
Minimum 2 years experience in recruiting, admissions, registration, or a student services related area
Bachelor’s Degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience
Understanding of admission and scholarship requirements and procedures
Excellent skills in oral and written communication
Extensive public speaking experience
Ability to work with a variety of audiences, including prospective students (traditional & post-traditional), parents, advisors, and alumni
Event development and coordination experience
Ability to multitask and initiate new projects
Willingness to travel (50% of position), evening and weekend work
Knowledge of/and appreciation for higher education
Familiarity with Microsoft Office and social media networks, and willingness to learn new computer programs
Preferred Qualifications:
Familiarity with Banner and Recruiter CRM Software
Experience with multicultural populations
Fluent in Spanish
Master’s degree or some graduate work
Education or experience in public relations/marketing
Strong computer skills, web publishing experience
Supervision of students and/or student groups
Some-counseling experience
