The Washington County District Attorney’s Office has an exciting career opportunity available for an experienced Bilingual Victim Assistant Specialist (Victim Advocate). The Position: The Victim Assistance Specialist provides support to victims of all crimes through two Washington County departments: the District Attorney’s Office and the Department of Community Corrections. They offer advocacy, education, notice, and support to victims of felony and misdemeanor criminal cases prosecuted by the DA’s Office as well as post-conviction advocacy, safety planning, and support to victims of crime through Community Corrections. The Victim Assistance Specialist acts as a liaison between the victim, prosecutors, law enforcement, and community resources. This position will require some preliminary work with victims to assist in the documentation of possible claims for restitution, tracking the nature and frequency of the victim contacts, and provide detailed and intricate documentation of those interactions in the case file and computer database. This position may require meetings with community partners to support joint efforts to assist victims of crime. All victim assistance specialists are expected to keep up on current laws, policies, and skills in the area of victim assistance and will be given opportunities for additional training and professional growth and development.
Ideal Candidate: The ideal candidate for this position will have an in-depth understanding of the complexities of the criminal justice system and the roles of the various persons in that system. This candidate will understand the resources in the community that are available to assist victims of crime, possess exceptional communication skills in person, on the phone, and in writing to inform victims of their constitutional rights and assist them in asserting them. The ideal candidate will also be comfortable giving presentations about the role of the victim advocate to community groups, partners, or assist in trainings.
Bilingual Positions: Designated bilingual positions require that the incumbent have knowledge of the Spanish language, including spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Skill in writing Spanish accurately; ability to speak Spanish fluently; and ability to communicate clearly and concisely both orally and in writing. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience:
Associate Degree or equivalent in criminal justice, corrections, social work, or related fields; and one (1) year of experience in a victim services role; OR
Three (3) years of work experience as an advocate in the justice system, probation, victim assistance, or other closely related areas serving vulnerable populations.
Additional Requirements:
Possession of a Victim Service Professional certification within one (1) year of hire date
Must pass a comprehensive background investigation.
Some positions may be required to pass a post-offer psychological assessment.
Some positions may require oral and written fluency in another language.

SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION
Washington County is committed to using a Merit Based System in which recruiting, selecting, and advancing employees is based on their relative knowledge, skills, and abilities.
Selection Process:
Week of March 28, 2022: Human Resources will screen applications for the minimum qualifications as outlined above.
Week of April 4, 2022: A panel of subject matter experts will review and score submitted cover letters and responses to the supplemental questionnaire for applicants that meet minimum qualifications.
Eligible List: Candidates that successfully pass the subject matter expert review will be placed on a list of candidates eligible for interviews. Typically, the top-ranking 6 – 8 candidates are invited to participate in panel interviews.
Conditional Offer of Appointment: Human Resources will conduct a salary analysis for the top candidate and will extend a conditional offer of appointment.
Post-Offer Testing: Human Resources will schedule the selected candidate for a Bilingual Written and Oral Assessment.
Start Date: A start date will be determined after all conditions of employment have been met.

This is a non-represented position and is not covered by a collective bargaining agreement.
Regular and limited duration full-time employees working 30 hours or more per week and job share employees are eligible for benefits beginning on the first of the month following employment.
