Job Description : The Galley Porter has responsibility for the proper organization and sanitation of all galley and storage areas on their shift. He/she will be responsible for ensuring that proper ware washing, storage and organization during their shift achieve the highest standard of quality and cleanliness that the company requires.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Coordinate with Executive Chef and help action plan for meal period.
Responsible for cleaning and sanitizing the dish wash area and much of the entire main galley, crew galley or alternative dining areas in accordance with USPH standards
Properly washes all china, silver and glassware, as well as cleans all pots, pans and equipment
Cleans fruit, vegetables, potatoes, etc., as directed
Ware washing, storage and stocking of all galley equipment, coordinate with staff to ensure that proper par levels of equipment are maintained
Follow all Company, United States Coast Guard and Federal Drug Administration rules and regulations at all times
Participate in pre shift and post shift line meetings
Ensure that all sanitation and safety specifications are adhered to during meal period.
Daily attention to all cost control systems.
Maintain compliance with the company grooming and uniform standards
Asset as needed in all mandated inventories and orders.
Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
Assists in loading and unloading during the storage of food, beverage and consumables, etc.
Regular checks of all equipment necessary for the completion of various tasks such as, water temperature of dish machine, soap levels, sanitizer and mixing stations, as well as properly report immediate deficiencies to supervisor
Helps to minimize breakage in the galley department
Takes part in storage of food and luggage handling, as required
May be required to perform some housekeeping and cleaning protocols as needed including, but not limited to, trash removal, removal of room service equipment, attend meetings scheduled by the Chief Housekeeper or other members of housekeeping management, use of COVID-19 specific equipment, sanitizers and protocols in order to effectively limit the occurrence and spread of viruses/pathogens
Familiarity with proper sanitation procedures and U.S. Public Health requirements
Provide assistance to other crewmembers and departments to contribute to the best overall operation of the Company
Participate and ensure participation of all USCG mandated drills and emergency procedures as directed
Actively participates in embarking duties such as loading, unloading, luggage carrying, etc., as needed
Performs other duties if required since above stated describe only a regular working day and may not be inclusive of every task needed to achieve results
Requirements & Qualifications
Education:
HS Diploma or Equivalent Required
Professional Certification(s) or License: Valid ServeSafe Food Handler certification or ability to acquire and maintain
Valid Transportation Worker Identification Credential (TWIC) – if applicable, and/or ability to obtain and maintain
Copy of DD214, if Veteran status
Skills & Abilities:
Excellent verbal and written communication skills
Experience:
One to two years of experience in a related field
Cruise industry experience preferred
Physical:
Must submit to and pass mandated USCG physical
Ability to meet and maintain the maximum onboard bunk bed capacity of 300 lbs.
Ability to conduct work in a marine environment that is subject to some/all the following: confined spaces, uneven surfaces, variations in temperature, wake, and motion
Ability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs.
Ability to climb stairs and ladders
Other:
Must be at least 21 years of age.
Submit to and pass alcohol and drug tests as mandated by the USCG including but not limited to pre-employment, random, reasonable suspicion and post-accident/incident testing.
