Job Description : The VA Ann Arbor Healthcare System’s MIDAS (Maintaining Implementation Through Dynamic Adaptations) team is seeking an Improvement Coach to join our team. MIDAS aims to increase evidence-based practice across the VA through coaching and team-based interventions. The Improvement Coach’s primary contribution will be guiding frontline staff to implement changes that optimize delivery of care for Veterans.As an Improvement Coach, you will join a dynamic team of Implementation Science researchers including physicians. You will use your creativity and interpersonal skills to coach VA employees to learn new skills that they can use to optimize clinical processes. You will help frontline healthcare providers implement practical improvements that align with VA priorities through hands-on learning in quality improvement and implementation science methods. While coaching is done virtually using a webinar platform during COVID-19, you may travel when it is safe to do so, and work flexible hours to meet the needs of clinical employees.We will provide specialized training in Quality Improvement methods, team-based coaching, and Academic Detailing. In your role as an Improvement Coach you will:Develop a deep understanding of Quality Improvement methods and clinical skills as a coach in our Learn. Engage. Act. Process. team-based coaching programTrain and function as an Academic Detailer, using established techniques in providing 1:1 coaching to clinical staff on evidence-based topicsCraft educational content and creative outreach strategies to effectively engage VA providers and staffDevelop and execute strategies to quickly identify providers’ needs and tailor education accordinglySchedule and document meetings and coaching sessionsProvide regular reports to the MIDAS QUERI teamEstablish and maintain positive, service-oriented, professional relationshipsSupport project coordination as neededA successful candidate embodies these characteristics:Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)Acts on constructive feedback and adapts based on experienceAttuned to their own strengths and limitations and seeks continuous learning and developmentSkilled in asking clarifying questions and giving constructive feedbackExcellent coaching skills (active listening, rapport building, reflection, and “meeting people where they’re at”)Experience working in a multidisciplinary teamFamiliarity with the VA healthcare system is preferredThe Improvement Coach will be employed by the VA’s Center for Clinical Management Research in Ann Arbor, Michigan (https://www.annarbor.hsrd.research.va.gov/).
