About the role
In this role, you will support the Manager US Logistics Strategy & Sourcing to manage the safe, efficient, and on time shipping of goods to customers by container and barge. The role includes accountability for container, barging & terminal performance, budget and network optimisation of customer centric logistics in the North America region. More specifically, you will be responsible for:

Accountable for the safe and efficient shipping of product by container/barge in North America.
Coordinate with Customer Service, S&M & Operations to ensure product availability and orders are shipped on time.
Provide specialist subject matter expertise in relation to containers/barging/terminals and network optimisation, including commercial impacts and opportunities.
Develop strong container line/barging/terminal relationships to assist in the negotiation of contract pricing and timely resolution of issues.
Utilisation of business intelligence to leverage the Group’s volume and market presence. Drive improvement through data analytics and innovation techniques.
Establish and maintain a performance-based scorecard with each container line/barging service provider, review quarterly and report KPIs monthly.
Lead/perform audits/reviews of container/barging/terminal service providers.
Audit container/barging/terminal invoices for payment.
Contribute to the development of best practice standards and use best proactive methodology in work activities.
Monitor regional industry trends and propose changes to work practices to enhance outcomes for Rio Tinto.
Develop, track and manage container/barging/terminal spend, including providing solutions to generate greater commercial outcomes for Rio Tinto.
Improve decision support through process control, standardisation and governance.
Create a HSE culture within RTL ensuring all activities comply with Rio Tinto standards and that product shipments are made in a safe and secure manner.
Engage service providers on HSEQ related issues to ensure compliance to contract management standards and performance expectations.

About you
To be successfully considered for this role, you will have:

Experience >5 years in supply chain role;
Implementing value adding logistics solutions;
Experience in generating and implementing outcomes to improve workflows and processes to increase efficiency and eliminate waste;
Logistics management experience;
Container/barging experience;
Bachelors level qualification in Logistics or similar

Knowledge and skills in:

Interpersonal, communication & negotiation skills.
Ability to operate in matrix organisation.
Strong internal and external Stakeholder management and customer service skills
Project management.
Logistics & other software packages (e.g. SAP)
