Position : Open Space Stewardship Lead

Job Description : DESCRIPTION:
Performs a variety of tasks for the maintenance of both open space and trails under the District’s jurisdiction. Responsibilities will vary seasonally to focus on natural resource stewardship and outdoor recreation goals.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
❖ Perform noxious weed management with mechanical, chemical, and biological methods
❖ Perform regular maintenance on natural surface trails, urban trails, and associated trailheads
❖ Monitor effectiveness of management activities through site visits and systematic documentation
❖ Use spatial database system for planning, tracking, and reporting work
❖ Operate hand tools, power tools, and powered equipment, including ATVs, UTVs, e-bikes, 4WD vehicles, and spray equipment
❖ Inspect, maintain, and track usage of waste disposal stations throughout the trail system
❖ Assist in implementation of natural resource restoration projects on District open space
❖ Assist in construction of trails, trailheads, signage, and other associated trail features
❖ Assist in winter snow removal operations and winter trail grooming
❖ Assist in the training and leading of seasonal staff
❖ Assist with trailhead building maintenance and custodial needs
❖ Engage with the public in a professional manner
❖ Perform all duties with safety as a top priority
❖ Perform all duties while consistently upholding and demonstrating the District’s Core Values as stated in the Policies and Procedures
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required:
❖ Eighteen (18) years of age or older
❖ High school diploma or equivalent
❖ Two years of experience in maintenance and/or construction of natural or recreational resources, which includes experience in ecology, botany, wildlife, horticulture, trails, landscaping, or parks
❖ Utah Department of Agriculture Certified Operator of Pesticide Application License, or equivalent license from another state, or ability to obtain within six (6) months of hire
❖ CPR and First Aid certification within six (6) months of hire
❖ Valid U.S. driver’s license
Desirable:
❖ Bachelor’s degree in ecology, biology, or natural resources management
❖ Knowledge of, or experience, using ArcGIS Desktop, ArcGIS Online, and ESRI mobile applications
❖ Wilderness First Aid certification
OTHER REQUIREMENTS:
v If offered a position with the District, employment will be conditioned upon the results of a background check
