Job Description : Jordan PREP – Pre-Freshman Engineering Program is a free academically rigorous summer program to help students age 12-15 excel in Science, Technology, Engineering and Math subjects. PREP originated at the University of Texas, San Antonio in 1979 to help underrepresented students break down the barriers to pursuing careers in STEM. The program provides hands-on learning experiences, challenging coursework and homework, career awareness speakers, and weekly field trips.
Dates: June 6th-July 27th. (Excluding July 4th and July 25th)
Hours: Core hours are 7:45 am – 3:45 pm. M-F. (Friday field trip time vary)
Location: JATC (Jordan Academy for Technology) North Campus, SLCC Jordan
Campus, 9301 S Wights Fort Rd, West Jordan, UT.
Compensation: 300 hours: $3,000 stipend + $1,342.88 education award = $4,342.88 total. Position is provided through the AmeriCorps program.
As an AmeriCorps member, you will receive a $3,000 stipend for your service and in addition, a $1,342.86 education award (after you successfully complete your term).

Assist instructors and program students.
Tutor students in STEM subjects and concepts.
Grade and provide feedback of student work and assessments and maintain student work records.
Create contacts and exposure while building your network
Weekly career speakers and chaperoning students on Friday Fieldtrips to companies and STEM enrichment opportunities provide motivation, inspiration and future contacts.
Apply your knowledge in a hands-on way
Assist students with math, logic, engineering, physics, computer science, technical writing, resume and business plan development, interviewing skills and capstone projects while strengthening your own skills and analytical abilities.
Work with staff in planning, preparing and coordinating special activities and events.
Make an impact while building confidence.
Help students develop their work ethic, resilience and analytical abilities giving them the confidence to pursue STEM careers.
Serve as an example and mentor to program students in your charge.

NOTE: This is not an hourly position. However, by completing the 300 minimum hours and qualifying for the education award, your total compensation for completing the summer program is equivalent to an hourly rate of $14.47.
The $3,000 stipend will be split up and paid on a bi-weekly (every two weeks) basis during your term of service. The education award is made available following the successful completion of your term of service.
The education award is sent to your school of choice and can then be used to pay for education expenses (student loans, tuition, or other education-related expenses). Many schools will allow you to withdraw the funds as needed (similar to scholarship or other granted funds). You can apply for the education award immediately or wait for up to seven years following your term completion. While serving as an AmeriCorps member, you are also eligible to have your student loans deferred (by request).
The individual selected for this position will serve as an AmeriCorps member. AmeriCorps is a national service opportunity, not just a regular job. Minimum Qualifications:

Must be at least 18 years of age, have a high school diploma or equivalent, and be a United States citizen or permanent resident
Have a cumulative college GPA of 3.0 or higher
Desire to major within the field of Mathematics, Science, Engineering,Secondary Education, Computer Science or other related STEM major.
