Are you looking for a new job with a great work/life balance including working from home? Well this position with the Utah Department of Health may be just what you are looking for. This full-time, temporary position will work as a teratogen information specialist, a professional with understanding of exposures that cause structural birth defects, developmental delays, low birth weight, preterm delivery, and other adverse outcomes in pregnancy and lactation. You will answer calls/texts/chats to the Mother To Baby Utah program from the public and clinicians statewide to provide accurate information on exposure risks. This position will have office space available but will, on a greater percentage of time, be completed through telework. If offered this position, your continued employment will be contingent upon passing a background check and review. There will be no cost to you and fingerprinting will be completed on the first day of employment or shortly thereafter. PRINCIPLE DUTIES

Through phone, email, text, and chat you will provide information about the use of medications, drugs, cosmetics, medical conditions, vaccines, and other exposures occurring during pregnancy and breastfeeding
Provide educational presentations to professionals and pre-professionals
Develop and disseminate written materials to the public and providers about exposures in pregnancy and lactation
Maintain professional knowledge of teratogen information
Assist in meeting grant and contract requirements

THE IDEAL CANDIDATE
Our ideal candidate will have:

Ability to communicate information both verbally and in writing to the public and clinical professionals
Ability to develop written materials on exposures for the public and clinical professionals
Public speaking skills including educational presentations, media interviews, and direct training
Experience working with office software including creating and editing documents, spreadsheets, and presentations
Ability to gather information, analyze, and apply to questions posed by clients
Ability to communicate with callers in a non-judgmental manner
Ability to navigate calls where difficult information is presented

PREFERENCES

Preference points for a clinical background or Bachelor’s degree in nursing, genetics, or pharmacy
Preference for ability to speak and write Spanish

Risks found in the typical office setting, which is adequately lighted, heated and ventilated, e.g., safe use of office equipment, avoiding trips and falls, observing fire regulations, etc.
Typically, the employee may sit comfortably to perform the work; however, there may be some walking; standing; bending; carrying light items; driving an automobile, etc. Special physical demands are not required to perform the work.
Be aware that salary ranges specified reflect a minimum starting and top of range dollar amount. Actual rate per hour will be determined by evaluation of qualifications and skills of the individual and the availability of monies through budget and grants or by following DHRM rule.
Occasional in state, out of state, overnight and weekend travel may be required.
As a condition of employment, this position requires compliance with the Utah Department of Health Employee Immunization policy. Applicants may request a copy of the policy if called for an interview.
