Join the Team at the Montana Youth Challenge Academy as a Licensed Academic Counselor!
Montana Youth Challenge Academy is a residential academic intervention program on the campus of the University of Montana Western for 16-18 year old students who are at risk of high school dropout. Designed by the National Guard Bureau and run through a cooperative agreement between the federal government and the state of Montana, the Academy offers military style structure and discipline along with academic, professional, and life-coping skills students need to become productive citizens. The Academy’s staff are professionals from a variety of backgrounds who share a dedication to our mission and who enjoy working in a dynamic, fast-paced, and rewarding environment.
Duties:
Compile and study occupational and educational information to aid students to implement programs of study.
Appraise and advise students to assist them with improved academic achievements.
Work with students, supervisors, teachers, and adults to solve problems impeding course progress or completion.
Conduct personal and group counseling to deal with academic adjustment, goal setting, conflict resolution, and learning difficulties
Develop and maintain working relationships with various community organizations and agencies, clients, and the public.
Represent organization at meetings, workshops, conferences, and other events.
May assist students by coordinate class scheduling.
Must be able to demonstrate the ability to work and engage in diverse working environments within and outside the department.

State of Montana employment may qualify for student loan forgiveness under the Public Service Loan Forgiveness (PSLF) program.

Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (Education and Experience): The successful candidate will hold a Master’s of Education in School Counseling, and current licensure in the State of Montana, or opportunity to obtain a class 5 license in Montana within six months of hire date. Previous experience with adolescent students is required. Additionally, the successful candidate will be able to demonstrate successful outcomes from previous work with at-risk youth.
Conditions of Employment: Must be able to pass a background and fingerprint check, and a pre-employment drug test.
