AREA OF RESPONSIBILITY:
Reporting to the Deputy Clerk, Administrative & Election Services, facilitates the development, implementation and coordination of the Corporate Accessibility Program as a result of initiatives established by the Accessibility Advisory Committee as well as legislation and regulations (i.e. Municipal Accessibility Plan, Ontarians with Disabilities Act, Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act). Monitors the application of and adherence to Municipal, Provincial and Federal legislation including the City’s Accessibility Technical Standards, Ontario Human Rights Code, Integrated Accessibility Standard Regulation and Canadian Standards Association. Identifies barriers, organizes and implements staff training to support the Corporation’s vision, goals and policy for Inclusive Customer Service.
Facilitates the development, implementation and coordination of the Accessibility Program.
Acts a resource to all departments as it relates implementing and accomplishing initiatives identified in the Municipal Accessibility Plan.
Acts as a subject matter expert on accessibility policies, procedures, applicable legislation and by-laws as well as services and programs provided by the Corporation, including duty to accommodate.
Reviews drawings and plans to ensure potential accessibility issues and conflicts are identified and provides recommendations for solutions.
Provides approval on accessibility components of site plan applications as well as provides application confirmation of Accessibility Technical Standards on projects.
Prepares, monitors and evaluates Accessibility policies and standard operating procedures for approval by Management and/or Council; ensuring content is maintained as it relates to changing legislation and Corporate initiatives.
Acts as advisor/consultant to Accessibility Advisory Committee, including making recommendations regarding agenda items and facilitating involvement of staff from other departments.
Monitors the application of the Corporation’s Accessibility Technical Standards, updates in accordance with changing industry standards and legislation, and guides implementation of changes
Researches, benchmarks and analyses industry practices and standards; providing reports where required.
Coordinates the implementation and development of initiatives related to the annual Accessibility Plan through consultation with the Advisory Committee and City staff.
Monitors and prepares reports to various committees, sub committees and senior staff, including City Council; delivering presentations where required.
Participates in the development and delivery of specialized Accessibility and Inclusive Customer Service training programs.
Responds to internal and external information requests and/or complaints related to accessibility policies, procedures, services and programs; ensuring timely resolution and a high degree of customer service.
Liaises and collaborates with various stakeholders and cross-functional teams across the City to provide support and technical assistance.
Identifies and removes barriers preventing customers from accessing City goods and services.
Implements legislative standards, including policies, procedures and practices.
Issues marriage licences and burial permits.
Assists with the Municipal Election as required.
Performs other similar and related duties as assigned.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
High School (Grade 12) graduation plus an additional program of three (3) to four (4) years in Business Administration, Public Administration or equivalent.
Over four (4) years, up to and including eight (8) years of related experience.
Valid, non-probationary Ontario Class G Drivers Licence.
Strong knowledge of legislation and regulations related to accessibility, diversity and inclusion.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with an emphasis on customer service.
Superior time management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
