Job Description : Analyst, Sustainable Materials: Become the Newest Member of the VF Family

The Sustainable Materials Analyst will play a pivotal role in tracking and reporting progress toward VF’s public sustainability goals including VF’s science-based targets, sustainable materials vision, sustainable packaging goal and other public commitments. This role will work across VF brands, functions, and regions, to gather, manage, and analyse sustainable materials related data, to benchmark and measure progress toward reducing impacts while continuing to drive product performance and value creation for the business.

How You Will Make a Difference:

Generate the research and tools to support brands, supply chain and innovation teams in vetting the sustainability implications and potential tradeoffs of their materials choices in line with VF responsible materials policies and public commitments. Support brand and supply chain teams in the development and implementation of sustainable material strategies through targeted analysis and research. Provide subject matter expertise and support in the implementation, usage, and interpretation of materials impact measurement methodologies in line with brand sustainable materials strategies. Provide technical materials analytics, data, and subject matter expertise to drive development of key VF materials sustainability tools and resources. Enable regular and accurate tracking against the company’s materials sustainability public commitments and other goals, including visualization, analysis, reporting, and benchmarking. This includes supporting teams across VF in building sustainable materials tracking and impact measurement into VF’s day-to-day operations. Provide input into development of broader organizational process and system improvements around sustainable materials data collection.

CORE ACCOUNTABILITIES:

MATERIALS ANALYTICS AND REPORTING:

Lead the end-to-end process of developing VF’s annual materials footprint in partnership with a cross-functional team of subject matter experts and data providers. Enable regular and accurate tracking against VF’s public materials-focused sustainability commitments and other goals, including visualization, analysis, reporting, and benchmarking. This includes supporting teams across VF in building sustainable materials tracking and impact measurement into VF’s day-to-day operations. Calculate and provide cross-brand materials analytics, visualization to enable internal KPI tracking and external reporting such as the Carbon Disclosure Project, VF’s annual Made for Change Sustainability & Responsibility Report, the Textile Exchange annual CFMB survey, the SAC’s Brand Retail Module, and others. Provide subject matter expertise in the implementation, usage, and interpretation of materials impact measurement methodologies. Support tracking of progress toward VF’s science-based targets modelling by providing sustainable material data analytics and technical support. Provide technical materials analytics, data, and subject matter expertise to drive the development of key VF materials sustainability tools and resources. Provide input into development of broader organizational process and system improvements around sustainable materials data collection. Support the Sustainability & Responsibility Data team in delivering required training to internal and external stakeholders who contribute data to develop the annual materials footprint. This role will work closely with the Manager of Sustainable & Responsible Materials to support the vetting of materials as part of the 2030 Sustainable Materials Vision, spanning across all brands and regions.

INTERNAL ENGAGEMENT

Design and deliver training to effectively build sustainable materials capacity and strengthen internal stakeholder’s knowledge of materials sustainability Ongoing education and communication with brand partners and cross-functional leads on materials sustainability data collection processes and objectives. Facilitate strategic decision-making discussions with brands related to individual brand sustainable materials roadmaps, and overall brand sustainability strategies. Organizes supply chain partner forums to raise awareness of VF’s sustainability goals and materials data collection process to build a foundational understanding of various materials sustainability topics and facilitate best practice sharing across functions.

MATERIALS and PRODUCT IMPACTS

Calculate material impacts using the Higgs Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), the Higgs Product module and other industry-adopted tools to support brand and supply chain team decision making and project implementation related to sustainable materials goals. Provide data and research using Life Cycle Analysis (LCA) methodology to inform materials vetting processes and adoption of potential new sustainable materials innovations. Deliver timely materials analytics and impact calculations to enable accurate brand product sustainability claims. Serve as the VF subject matter expert into the Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), Higgs Product Module and other industry-adopted materials sustainability data sets; develop tools and resources to support integration into day-to-day decision making. In partnership with the Responsible Materials and Traceability team, provide technical materials analytics, data, and subject matter expertise to support development of VF materials sustainability resources and support sustainable materials vetting.

SUSTAINABILITY IMPACT:

Research and identify the best-in-class sustainability impact calculations and presentations techniques beyond sustainable materials. Calculate sustainability impacts of circularity projects to support brands in tracking progress toward public goals. Support VF Functions and Brands to prepare for the Higgs Transparency Program utilizing sustainability impact analytics Maintain knowledge of trends, industry standards, consumer expectations, and relevant legislative changes to continually enhance impact tracking toward program goals and brand priorities Participate in industry working groups such as the Policy Hub Product Environmental Footprint Category Rules, or the UNFCCC raw materials working group.

Skills for Success:

Years of Related Professional Experience: 1+ years
Educational/ Position Requirements:
BA or BS Degree required, with Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field Apparel industry experience preferred. Ability to collect, analyze and interpret sustainable material and product level data and provide practical recommendations relevant to a global apparel company. Experience in Sustainability data analytics, understanding of the complexity and limitations of overall sustainability data spectrum Understanding of Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) tools and how they can be effectively utilized for materials data collection and analysis. Experience with Life-Cycle-Assessment (LCA) methodologies and process Experience with the Sustainable Apparel Coalition (SAC) Higgs Index, Materials Sustainability Index (MSI), Higgs Product tools preferred. Experience with software for analyzing, modeling, visualizing, and sharing datasets (Microsoft Excel, Tableau, etc.) Adept at communicating information clearly and concisely to both specialist and non-specialist end users. Ability to balance multiple projects and to conduct appropriately focused and communicated research. Technical knowledge of apparel materials, including awareness of key fibers, feedstocks and common manufacturing and processing for apparel. Understanding of the landscape of apparel industry supply chain and its environmental/social impacts. Attention to detail. Ability to collaborate effectively with internal and external partners.

Salary Range: $56,160.00 USD – $84,240.00 USD annually

Annual Incentive Eligibility :
This position is eligible to participate in VF’s Annual Incentive Plan. Incentive Plan awards are contingent upon (1) achievement of your individual objectives and (2) VF achieving its’ Corporate and business level financial objectives.

Long Term Incentive Eligibility :
This position is not eligible for long term incentive.
