PAMA serves the Region of Peel (Brampton, Caledon and Mississauga), a growing municipality with a population of over 1.4 million individuals from diverse backgrounds. PAMA also partners with community-based cultural, social services, health, arts and heritage organizations.
PAMA has a rich history from the origins of the Peel County Courthouse, Jail, Office Building and Registry Office, to its expansion completed in 2012. These historical milestones are a testament to the heritage of Peel Region and PAMA’s integral place within this history.
We have an exciting opportunity for a Curatorial Assistant to join the PAMA Team!
In this position you will provide curatorial support for PAMA Art Gallery collections management and integrated exhibitions.
Some of these exciting ways to support will be research, documentation and collections processing, installation and de-installation, monitoring of exhibition spaces and collections, basic care and handling of works of art.
Exhibition Work:
You will assist with development and production of exhibitions by…
Drafting, proofreading and production of graphics, text and labels
Installs and de-installs exhibitions as part of a team
Packing and unpacking art works
Completing condition reports
Photography
Basic care, handling and moving of collections.
Conducts research
Assists with exhibition and gallery daily inspections
Monitors lighting and art work conditions and assists with equipment monitoring requirements
Contacts artists, art dealers, vendors, organizations and individuals for art gallery service delivery
Some administrative tasks may include:
Prepares reports, researches, verifies accuracy and documents information according to curatorial best practices
Assists with collections management tasks such as: processing donations, accessioning art works, research, updating collections database, maintaining collection and artists’ files
Assists with the preparation of applications for cultural property designation to the Canadian Cultural Property Export Review Board
What we are looking for…
CREATIVITY, INNOVATION, & COLLABORATION as well as:
University degree in art history or a related subject
Basic knowledge of art museum practices
At least 2 years job related experience in an art gallery setting
Demonstrated experience with collections management database systems
Ability to lift and carry objects and tools up to 30 pounds.
Informational research skills
Proficiency in the use of computers and Microsoft Office software

In this role you will have the ability to work remotely and attend on-site when required based on operational requirements at the 9 Wellington Street East, Brampton worksite. The frequency of on-site activities may vary on a weekly basis and based on operational requirements. Your remote work location must be located within the province of Ontario.
Hours of Work: 35 hours per week
