Job Description : FTE: 1.0Salary: $118,456- $129,481, exempt, benefit eligible, 260 days + 9 holidays + 8 personal days.Closes March 16, 2022.Interviews to be held April 4, 2022.Overview: The Assistant Superintendent of Schools oversees the operation of the school district and supports the superintendent, by working with directors, coordinators, principals, and building staff to build vision, set priorities, and develop long and short-range plans for the day-to-day operation of the school district. This includes, but is not limited to, various programs, policy and procedure, special projects, and supervising building principals. This position reports directly to the Superintendent.Job Responsibilities: VISION, CONTINUOUS IMPROVEMENT, AND FOCUS OF DISTRICT WORK: Assistant Superintendent shall help establish a vision, expect continuous improvement, and develop a focused plan for achieving district goals. Effective Assistant Superintendents help facilitate the establishment of a vision for their districts. They articulate this vision clearly, creating a description of what the district can become. This vision drives the district’s work.Assists the Superintendent in overseeing the operation of the school district.Works with directors, coordinators, principals, and building staffs to build vision, set priorities, and develop long and short-range plans for the day to-day operation of the school district.Assists principals and district level administrators in the development of leadership skills.Attends Board of Trustee meetings.COMMUNICATION AND COLLABORATION: Assistant Superintendent shall communicate effectively to help lead and collaborate with all major stakeholders, to make informed decisions, and maintain focus on the district goals.Establish expectations for collaboration, compliance with district policy and procedures, and quality continuous improvement.Works effectively with parents to address needs and concerns.Communicates and provides direction for all building staffs to ensure quality performance at all levels.Assists in moving the district forward to achieve instructional and operational goals.Provides leadership for positive conflict resolution for schools, parents, student, and staff.POLICIES AND GOVERNANCE: Assistant Superintendent shall Will help identify, prioritize, recommend, and follow policies and governance procedures that support success. Will oversee grants and federal reporting requirements related to student achievement data.Provides leadership in the development, writing, and implementation of policies and procedures for the school district.Ensures that the district operations are in compliance with federal, state and local requirements and reflect the best thinking and practices of educators and professionals in their respective fields.Oversees the development of the Continuous School Improvement Plan (CSIP) and assists the other administrators and staff with grant acquisition.Organizes and leads committees as requested by Superintendent.Works with district and building administrators to establish and implement the School and District Continuous Improvement Process and Plan.Supervises and/or completes reports to the Montana Office of Public Instruction.Troubleshoots unanticipated problems related to the operation of the school district.INSTRUCTION: The Assistant Superintendent shall help with the creation of instructional systems designed for student achievement. The Assistant Superintendent shall work with the Superintendent while placing a primary focus on improving instruction and enhancing student achievement.Assists in creating a district culture and expectations that support effective data-based decision making at all levels of the system.Works with district and building administrators to identify, collect, analyze, and use relevant data to identify strengths to sustain and weaknesses to address.Promotes, supports, and uses research-based best practices for curriculum design and instruction.Attends meetings of K-12 principals, Central Office, District Leadership Team, and any other as delegated by the Superintendent.Responsible for curriculum instruction and materials for the district.RESOURCES: The Assistant Superintendent will develop and oversee curriculum and operational budgets and manage the necessary resources to support of district goals for instruction and achievement. Assistant Superintendent takes actions to achieve district goals and support individuals at all levels in the district. Helps to organize the district to provide leaders appropriate authority within their scope of work to make decisions and implement initiatives. The Assistant Superintendent allocates adequate and equitable resources across the district.Supervises the performance of those delegated by the Superintendent.Assists the Superintendent in overseeing the development and distribution of building and department budgets and manage expenditures as requested.Oversees the selection of assistant principals and directs the certified new staff orientation, induction, and mentor program.Provides leadership for the study of enrollment patterns and demographics and works with administrators in developing possible changes in attendance areas, assignment of staff and service quality.Plans for resources required for the future to support operations, personnel, and facilities and develops updates on school district operations.Serves as liaison to various community, university, and other school district projects and groups within the county.Seeks outside resources and recognitions for the school district by supporting staff that apply for grants and awards.Conducts studies on areas of operation and efficiency for quality improvement.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Knowledge of and skills in interpreting applicable federal and state laws and developing district policies and procedures.Knowledge of current principles and methods of public-school management and instructional methods; comprehensive knowledge of school law, and school district organization.Demonstrated strong leadership skills and the ability to inspire, motivate, and challenge the status quo.Lead and deliver, encourage initiatives, build a sense of common purpose, and empower others.Ability to plan, organize, coordinate, and direct a variety of complex technical operations involving efforts of multiple specialized units of a broad management program for a large school district.Ability to collect, interpret, and analyze complex technical data, as well as identify potential problems, evaluate alternative solutions, and prepare sound recommendations.Ability to make difficult decisions, ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others.Ability to express oneself clearly and concisely, both orally and in writingSkill in organizational management; ability to provide effective administration of duties.Demonstrated communication and interpersonal skills.Ability to present oneself in a professional manner while conducting all aspects of job duties.Minimum Qualifications: Master’s degree or higher in Educational Leadership or Curriculum and Instruction; ANDExperience in leading curricular and instructional initiatives at the building and/or district level,Valid Montana Administrator’s certification with appropriate administrative endorsements upon hire,Minimum of five years’ experience in school administration.Preferred Qualifications: Experience as a school district central office administrator.Experience working with Montana laws, policies/regulations, and school finance.Physical Demands: Ability to stand on feet for extended periods of time, stoop, bend, lift and carry items up to 40 pounds.Primary Location GENERAL ADMINISTRATION Salary Range $118,455.00 – $129,481.00 / Per Year Shift Type Full-TimeJob Type: Full-time
