The Ontario Cannabis Store provides safe, responsible access to recreational cannabis for adults 19 and older. We operate the sole legal online store for recreational cannabis in Ontario and is now the provincial wholesaler of cannabis for private retail stores.

About the Role
We are looking for an Associate Category Manager to join our Merchandising team. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape the future of a new industry with a strong social responsibility mandate to help adults in Ontario understand cannabis and make informed, responsible choices.

You will work under the direction of a Category Manager to establish strategy for your respective category through understanding consumer insights and data, optimize your assortment to fulfill their needs, and build productive relationships with suppliers. You will collaborate regularly with Supply Chain to ensure inventory productivity and supply. You will also collaborate regularly with our Wholesale and Ecommerce teams to ensure execution of new item launches, anticipate trends and innovation through available data that best meet the needs of each channel. As the Associate Category Manager, you are expected to meet your budgeted financial goals and successful execution of our Product Call Process.

About Your Day

Continuous improvement on product knowledge and an understanding of the customer through consumer insights and data analytics.
Determine the product assortment consistent with consumer needs, negotiate costs and set retails for designated categories that are in alignment with the corporate and department strategy.
Utilize industry knowledge and market trends to leverage opportunities, monitor retail pricing and ensure competitiveness to eliminate the illegal market.
Collaborate with supply chain on initial order forecasting and inventory management.
Develop and operate within a product assortment framework and open to buy budget to deliver on profit targets.
Work closely with Marketing, Insights, Supply Chain, Wholesale, Ecommerce, Marketing, and Quality Assurance departments on key projects and initiatives.
Establish and maintain key supplier relationships with Licensed Procedures.
Be responsive to supplier inquiries within 48 hours.
Work closely with suppliers to continuously improve product quality and consistency.
Schedule and contribute periodic business reviews with suppliers to provide them full clarity on their current vendor performance and how they can improve the business with us.
Evaluate product call submissions, complete line reviews, initiate and maintain contract negotiations/renewals.
Onboard new vendors, ensuring compliance to OCS standards.
Prepare and deliver periodic presentations on category performance and strategy to Management and Senior Management.

About You

Post-Secondary Education in a related field of study (i.e. Business Administration), or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.
3+ years or equivalent years of experience in purchasing and merchandising.
Professional expertise in business analysis and interpretation of category data.
Demonstrated experience with retail merchandising, merchandising strategies in both wholesale and ecommerce channels.
Intermediate skill with MS Office, including MS Excel for data manipulation and reporting is required. PowerPoint for various presentations. Familiarity with Power BI and Microsoft D365 is an asset.
Demonstrated negotiation, project management and decision-making skills.
Ability to work in a fast-paced and rapidly evolving environment.
Knowledge of the cannabis industry is seen as an asset.

Remote Work

This position offers a Hybrid work schedule. Effective April 2022, you will be required to be in the office 1-2 days each week, with the ability to work from home for the remaining workdays (subject to specific business needs requiring office attendance)
Currently, our office is open and available to use but it is not mandatory to be in office until 4 April 2022
When working from home, a reliable internet connection is required. Remote work is supported with cloud-based applications and collaboration tools (i.e., MS Teams)
