Job Summary:
Responsible for assisting with all trail building and maintenance, using trail maintenance techniques and protocols, assisting in the production of various summer bike races, and acting in a support role during the evacuation of injured guests, assessing trails, promoting a safe environment for guests and employees, evacuating lifts and performing trail work and maintenance. The majority of the duties are performed outdoors in variable conditions.
Most of the work is conducted outdoors in the on-mountain arena. Assist in production of bike races, events, and other mountain activities. Additional work will be conducted in the events and recreation department office located on the 1st floor of the Mountain Operations building or in Patrol HQ at the Summit.

Job Requirements: High school diploma or GED equivalent, college education or trade education preferred. CPR/AED certification at the Basic Life Support level Knowledge of Whitefish Mountain Resort operations and/or resort operations is preferred Must be able to safely ride all trails at WMR; Advanced biking skills preferred 2 years of previous comparable experience preferred.
Job Specifications: Knowledge of trail building/erosion prevention techniques preferred. Trail maintenance requires proficiency with landscaping and mountain bike tools, knowledge of proper use, and understanding of mountain bike trail building techniques. Basic 1st Aid (on the job training available). Ability to work in emergency situations with a high degree of stress (medical accidents and lift incidents). Ability to assist with dispatch operations at any time. Knowledge of basic lift operation, evacuation, and ability to look for potential problems. Knowledge of all of WMR sweeps, morning duties, trail closures and sweeps. Per WSI Vehicle Insurance standards: must be at least 18 years of age and possess a valid driver’s license and the ability to be added to WSI’s vehicle insurance policy. Able to operate mountain vehicles and use of only mountain vehicle approved routes. Subject to WSI’s Alcohol and Controlled Substance Abuse Policy based on the nature of the position and related duties. Must have very strong guest service skills.
Specific Duties:
Trail Maintenance Ability to assist patrol and trail crew staff on designated projects. Communicate with Bike Park Management and Trail Crew Supervisor to identify areas of need or improvement. Trail Tool proficiency with a knowledge of proper use and understanding of mountain bike trail building techniques. Be familiar with all mountain trails, winter trail names, access points, and areas. Check and replace trail signs and identify trail marking needs. Help with the administrative duties related to trail maintenance, design and construction of bike trails. Be familiar with all mountain trails. Check and replace trail signs and trail marking.
Accidents, Rescue and Evacuation Ability to assist with dispatch operations at any time. Assist in a support and transport role to accidents/medical emergencies on biking and hiking trails, activities or within mountain facilities. Be familiar with protocol for accident response. Possess thorough knowledge of all patient extrication and egress points on mountain. Know and practice with all rescue equipment (litters, vehicles usage, extrication devices, etc).
Public Relations Expected to be neat, clean, and wear approved/provided uniforms. Expected to be courteous and helpful to the skiing public, present a professional attitude and manner at all times. Provide information to guests at patrol stations and headquarters as well as on the mountain.
Races and Events Perform event set up and support as needed for bike races, on mountain events, and weddings. Coordinates the daily work and assigns duties for organizational aspects of event production. Will supervise staff responsible for all aspects of event production. This includes but is not limited to – event collateral distribution; venue coordination, design and creation; coordination across departments for event or equipment needs; course marking; sponsorship obligations; coordination of results and awards ceremonies; other duties as needed. Ability to communicate event and patrol needs to Bike Park Management. Communicate with other operations departments regarding event and race impacts.
Safety & Wellness:
All team members must be on alert for any unsafe conditions and work behaviors. This will involve, but not be limited to, periodic inspections of work and public areas.
Work Environment: In the event of an emergency rescue, lifting up to 100 pounds may be required, possibly on rugged and uneven terrain. Twisting at torso and bending at knees on uneven terrain. Repetitive lifting up to 25 to 50 pounds. Must be able to mountain bike/hike with heavy loads of up to 50 pounds. Continuously throughout the shift required to twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, grasp with both hands, and ride bicycles. Repetitively twist, stoop/bend, squat, kneel, grasp with both hands. Work is moderate to strenuous and frequent overall in all types of weather and conditions. Occasionally climb lift towers, stairs, and work above the ground (heights) Ability to work under varying weather conditions, often extreme in nature. Job requires working weekends, holidays and overtime during peak demand times. Required to wear a helmet during all on-bike activities, operating chainsaws, or any other time head injury or overhead hazard is present).
