Part-time (8 hours a week) Braillist
2022-23 School YearResponsibilitiesThe Braillist performs a variety of Braille transcription work; assists teachers with the preparation of classroom and teaching materials for visually impaired students; and assists with the instruction and supervision of students.. S/he will coordinate his/her work with the TVI/O&M Specialists.
Qualifications

Shall pass the necessary CDE Braille evaluation
Shall possess the necessary CDE authorization.
Demonstrate a thorough understanding of Special Education regulations, including the Free Appropriate Public Education, and Behavior Intervention Plans.
Demonstrate effective interpersonal and communication skills, both orally and in written form, with client population including professional staff, parents, students and outside agencies.
Demonstrate continuing commitment to uphold the ethical and professional standards of conduct and current best practices for such position.
Participate in all opportunities for professional growth offered by the BOCES.

Skills, Experience, Other Requirements

Transcribe print materials into braille, interline, and prepare tactile graphics to represent visual stimuli and pictures.
Enlarge print materials
Work with student to reinforce academic and functional life skills
Support student within the classroom setting
Accompany student on field trips, assist student with orientation and mobility and daily living skills
Coach student at various work sites
Commute between office, schools, and warehouse
Consult with TVI/O&M specialist to determine appropriate preventative and remedial services for students with visual impairments
Ability to employ constructive communication strategies and approaches while working with students, staff, families, and community
Responsible for working under the supervision of the TVI/O&M specialist
Effectively manage time and tasks to meet deadlines and maintain a well-organized work space
Perform other duties as assigned
