Job Description : Job Purpose
Under general administrative direction by the City Manager, the Helena Chief of Police leads, plans, directs, manages, and oversees the Helena Police Department. Responsibilities include administration of HPD operations, investigations, support services, and research and development services and programs; to coordinate assigned activities with other City departments and external partners; and to provide highly responsible and complex administrative support to the City Manager.
License and/or Certificate Requirements
Possession of or ability to obtain within six months of hire a P.O.S.T Executive Certificate Minimum Qualifications
Ten (10) years of progressively responsible law enforcement experience, of which five years must have
been at the command/supervisory level (lieutenant, captain, assistant chief, chief or equivalent).
Education
Equivalent to a bachelor”s degree from an accredited college or university with major course work in
Criminal Science, Police Science, Public Administration, Business Administration, or related field. A
combination of education and experience may be considered on an individual basis.
