Position Summary
Centennial College’s Career Services and Co-operative Education department is looking for a collaborative Advisor to prepare, monitor and evaluate students participating in the co-op program. The Advisor will provide students with the necessary tools and resources to prepare students for a successful co-op work term.
Reporting to the Director, Career Services and Co-operative Education, the Co-operative Education Advisor partners with employers to identify co-op employment opportunities that match the skills of students and result in meaningful work term experiences. The Advisor manages employer relationships and supports employers with drafting job descriptions, matching positions with program competencies/student capabilities, compensation packages and addressing work/performance related issues.
The Advisor will also deliver a credit course that prepares students for their work term. This course includes various assignments that help students develop the necessary employability skills and assess their readiness for the workplace.

Responsibilities
Attract prospective co-op students and employers through creative marketing and relationship-building techniques
Prepare, enhance and deliver a credit course (Employment Pre-placement) using appropriate employment preparation materials and strategies based on the changing demands of the workplace
Advise students on employment trends, salary data, company profiles and employer expectations
Evaluate student progress and job readiness through a variety of assignments
Refer students to other college resources, if necessary (e.g. Centre for Accessible Learning and Counselling Services, International Education)
Contribute to the development of an annual employer marketing strategy/action plan to ensure a coordinated approach to job development
Establish and maintain employer connections through regular communications and meetings
Liaise with students and employers during the work term to support and evaluate their progress and performance
Work with students to explore strengths, interests, areas for development and employment expectations
Review student resumes and cover letters to ensure the documents represent the student appropriately in the competitive job search process
Evaluate student performance and assign grades to students based on assignments and employer evaluations
Track student status in the program and ensure accuracy of data using a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system and generate reports
Participate in organizing special events, such as employer information sessions and the annual Co-op Week
Perform other administrative duties as required

Qualifications/Experience
Four-year (4) degree in a Business or Communications discipline (i.e. Marketing, Communications Studies, Human Resources). Social Sciences, Education or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
Minimum five (5) years of experience in employment advising and job development, sales/marketing, cold calling/sales techniques, CRM systems, and workshop delivery
Experience working in a career services and/or employment services environment
Experience developing course content, facilitating learning and evaluating student success based on established learning outcomes
Proven experience with MS Office, CRM systems and social media tools
Knowledge of the postsecondary sector, Centennial College programs, the Canadian Labor Market, employment trends and marketing techniques
Excellent presentation and communication skills (oral and written)
Demonstrated relationship management and interpersonal skills
Strong problem solving and analytical skills
Excellent planning and organizational skills and the ability to manage tight timelines and changing priorities
Demonstrated initiative and the ability to work independently
Experience, knowledge and understanding of working effectively in a diverse environment
