$84,425 to $101,298

The Toronto District School Board adheres to equitable hiring, employment and promotion practices.
Reporting to Manager, Corporate and Social Media Relations, the Communications Officer – Social

Media will:
Develop and implement TDSB’s digital communications strategy and initiatives;
Plan and create engaging digital content and develop content and responses for the
public, staff, students, Trustees and other stakeholders through social media/online

channels in collaboration with Communications staff and staff from other departments;
Provide social media content for the Director and Trustees; and
Support corporate media relations.
Summary of Duties:

➢ Monitor and post content on TDSB social media channels on a daily basis, including evenings and
weekends, to ensure content is delivered and any developing issues are identified quickly;

➢ Create content for Director of Education, Trustees and other stakeholders for a variety of
initiatives, issues and events including researching, drafting and sharing of social media content;

➢ Provide advice and guidance to Principals, Superintendents and central staff with regards to social
media and other issues/system files;

➢ Track stories about the TDSB in print and broadcast media, flagging urgent/contentious issues
and produce daily summaries of coverage and responses provided to media for distribution to

system;
➢ Receive and respond to media requests, maintain media distribution list, share news releases

internally and externally, and update website accordingly;
➢ Provide regular analytics on social media usership and trends on followers on all social media

platforms including conducting forensic analysis of social media commentary sources and

identities to assist with crisis management, investigations and contraventions of Board policies

and/or values;
➢ Remain current with social media best practices, strategies, and industry trends;

➢ Provide leadership in fostering equity and inclusiveness in the development and implementation of
programs and services; and

➢ Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:

➢ Three year College Diploma in a related field (e.g. Public Relations, Journalism) with a minimum
three years experience in social media and communications, or an equivalent combination of

education and experience;
➢ Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills, with the ability to draft clear and compelling

social media related content;
➢ Demonstrated experience in developing and successfully implementing digital communications

strategies;
➢ Experience tracking, monitoring and measuring social media outcomes, managing and using

social media platforms, analytics and reporting tools;
➢ Strong strategic thinking and planning skills with a demonstrated track record;

➢ Experience working with and providing strategic advice to elected officials and senior
management;

➢ Strong client service orientation and commitment to excellence, with a proven track record for
successfully delivering measurable communications results;

➢ Strong organizational skills, and the ability to work under pressure, managing multiple priorities
and tight deadlines;

➢ Ability to handle matters requiring high levels of diplomacy, sensitivity and confidentiality and to
take appropriate action in stressful situations;

➢ Demonstrated initiative and ability to work both independently and collaboratively in a creative
team environment;

➢ Proficient skills and expertise in computer technology and various digital platforms and tools; and

➢ Proven ability in promoting equitable practices which value inclusiveness and diversity.

Special Requirements:

➢ Must be available to work early mornings, evenings and weekends with minimal or no notice.

➢ May be required to attend Board and committee meetings as needed.
