Job Status: Temporary, Intermittent; Non-exempt
Time Period: Approximately mid March to mid October

Job Overview:
The Conservation Lands Restoration Coordinator will assist with management of natural resources across 5000 acres of City conservation land through control of invasive plant species and restoration of native plant species.

Core duties and responsibilities to include:
Provides maintenance of native plant communities through invasive species control efforts, native species restoration project implementation, and assisting in greenhouse plant propagation work.
Collects and manages data utilizing mobile GIS software on natural resource management efforts implemented to track progress and determine efficacy.
Chemical and mechanical invasive species control (herbicide application, hand pulling, cutting, etc.), light forest restoration work, collection of native plant materials, repotting and out planting plant materials grown in native plant greenhouse, watering of restoration plantings.
Collection of project tracking data via smart phone or tablet.
Follows simple protocols for monitoring the status of invasive species infestation and native species restoration projects.
Safely uses and performs regular cleaning and maintenance of small equipment.
Demonstrates safety, leadership, and task efficiency to other temporary staff.

Requirements for this job include:
Requires Bachelor”s degree with at least one (1) year of relevant experience
Or any combination of education and experience equivalent to five (5) years
A valid Driver’s License with a verified acceptable driving record

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge in the use of all or most of the following tools/equipment: herbicide application and equipment, GPS/GIS tools and software, chainsaws, weed eaters, power tools, light dump trucks, ATV’s, UTV”s, brush- chippers and assorted gardening implements.
Basic knowledge of Missoula’s open space system
Basic knowledge of Montana’s or greater northern Rocky Mountain region native and invasive plants and animals
Ability to perform manual tasks with minimal supervision.
Ability to work independently and to take verbal and written directions
Ability to safely perform required duties in an outdoor environment with variable environmental conditions.
Ability to operate small power equipment, hand tools, and operate light equipment in a safe and effective manner.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, other employees and the public.
Ability to represent the City of Missoula in a professional manner.

Special Conditions:
Variable dates available from mid March – mid October
Duties frequently performed on steep terrain in undesirable physical conditions where noise, heat, dampness or cold are encountered.
Duties will include applying chemical and mechanical invasive species control methods.
Lifting and moving of equipment and material weighting up to 50lbs.
