Job Description : The Ministry of the Solicitor General, Ontario Provincial Police, and the Bureau Commander of the Highway Safety Division is seeking a qualified individual to join the Toronto Detachment. In this exciting, rewarding and challenging opportunity, you will provide liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system to provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.

The Highway Safety Division (HSD) incorporates the Provincial Traffic Operations (PTO), five Greater Toronto Area (GTA)/Golden Horseshoe Detachments and dedicated full time deployed traffic units
located in North West, North East, West, East and Central Regions. HSD consists of approximately 650 Uniform and Civilian members and is responsible for a patrol area of 139,047 kilometers of highway,
waterways and trails.

What can I expect to do in this role?
To manage court case files for a Detachment, providing liaison services with the court and monitoring the progress of files through the court system. To provide court security services for the detachment and court and to participate in the escort of offenders.

How do I qualify?
MandatoryAbility to pass an OPP background/ security investigation.Valid class G driver’s license.
Ability to attain and maintain Special Constable status.
Ability to pass and maintain ongoing certification in Use of Force.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:Knowledge of OPP, Attorney General and Ministry policies and procedures (including Records Management System procedures) and legislation related to court proceedings, administration and documentation to coordinate detachment activities at court and ensure appropriate preparation and completion of all required court documents and information. Knowledge of relevant sections of legislation such as the Criminal Code, Young Offenders Act, Youth Criminal Justice Act, Family Law Act, provincial offenses and municipal by-laws to coordinate court proceedings, prepare briefs and other court documents. Knowledge of court processes, procedures, operations and scheduling to coordinate and monitor court proceedings.Organizational skills to coordinate and track all arrangements and documentation pertaining to detachment case files being processed in court.Written communication skills to compose and prepare court-related documents.Assesses documentation and information requirements for crown prosecutors et al, and follows up with paperwork that has not been included in crown briefs or has not been prepared, in the process of managing case files.Interpersonal skills to work in a team setting. Organizational skills and ability to prioritize tasks. Works under minimal daily supervision within defined parameters and procedures.Ability to problem-solve to check and verify a variety of reports, forms, and documents for accuracy. Ability to complete forms, (e.g., receipts, criminal records check and vulnerable sector check forms), and coding to perform financial/accounting duties.Knowledge of application software programs to prepare, update and maintain court-related records.Ability to identify and analyze the nature of enquiries or calls, some of which are confidential and/or sensitive in nature, gaining clarity of request, and determine how best to respond or whether to refer a person to a uniformed officer or other personnel. Exercises sensitivity, tact and diplomacy.
