Job Description : Location: Hays, MT

JOB SUMMARY:
The Cultural Specialist (Wica?tiyana and Waga gana) and (Bitibiihah Bah’iiihah) will provide

educational planning, cultural advocacy, and guidance to the Lifes Language Lodge education

program.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provides educational planning, cultural advocacy, and guidance to appropriate

professionals and student service offices for Lifes Language Lodge students.

Assists teachers and students with Native American cultural workshops to create

awareness of cultural identity and heritage.

Assists and helps organize student organizations with a focus on Native American

culture.

Supports and nurtures a welcoming and culturally sound environment for Native

American students.

Increases visibility and awareness of current events relevant to Native American issues

through planning events, forums, conferences, and collaborations.

Collaborate with parents, community members, and local departments in developing

comprehensive and integrated efforts to support Native American/Indigenous students.

Utilizes data to proactively identify student and building needs.

Collects and records data to evaluate all programming activities.

Serves as a liaison between home, school, and community.

Performs other related tasks as assigned by the Director.

INTERRELATIONS:
Contact with personnel within the company, students, parents and the community.

Work with a diverse population requiring the ability to handle all situations with tact and

diplomacy.

Expected to interact with all internal and external parents in a friendly and professional

manner.

REQUIRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
A Bachelors degree in education, social work, or related field required.

Significant and extensive personal experience and knowledge of tribal customs and

traditions, particularly in ?????niihnen and nakoda languages, medicines, kinship,

stories, oral tradition, and the cultural significance of each.

Knowledge of or experience meeting the unique educational and cultural needs of Native

American students (awareness of Native American history, values, and contemporary

issues in education).

Needs to be a positive role model, able to live and work successfully in multicultural

communities.

Possess the skills pertinent for positive human relationships and the ability to work

effectively with central office staff, principals, instructional staff, students, parents, and

the community.

Proficient PC computer knowledge is required.

Ability and patience to work with students and parents.

Demonstrate proficiency in the ability to take initiative and work independently

Excellent organizational skills

Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Displays a significant degree of professionalism and confidentiality.

Knowledge of Lifes Language Lodges mission, purpose, goals and the role of every

employee in achieving each of them.

Program development, implementation and evaluation experience preferred.

Experience in academic advising preferred.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS:
Travel will be required for Professional Development, conferences, trainings, and

meetings as a representative of Lifes Language Lodge.

A valid Drivers License required.

A U.S. Passport may be required for travel.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Must be able to lift-up to 25 pounds at times.

Works in standard office and school building environments.

Must have organization, time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Ability to read and use information from written materials and visual displays.

Ability to work in standing/walking positions on a frequent basis throughout the work

shift.

Ability to bend, kneel, stoop and maintain balance while performing job related tasks.

Ability to work outdoors during outdoor student activities.

Additional requirements upon request from the Supervisor.
