DATA CENTRE OPERATOR II
Summary:
Under specific direction, the Data Centre Operator II performs Operations & Maintenance (O&M) preventive maintenance inspections on mechanical, electrical and automatic temperature control equipment. Performs all work in accordance with established safety procedures. Identifies and lists replacement, repair and/or recalibration action required by service mechanics. May require additional direction or supervision when carrying out certain duties and responsibilities.
Qualifications:
An experienced Data Centre Operator with a sound knowledge and understanding of critical environments and the impact of human factors on uptime. Working knowledge of the site specific maintenance policies and procedures (SOPs, MOPs EOPs) as required to maintain the facility to the requirements of Uptime Tier IV.
Key Responsibilities:
Perform minor troubleshooting and repairs required for the maintenance and upkeep of equipment such as, but not limited to, replace belts and filters, lubrications, minor part replacement and trouble-shooting of minor mechanical/electrical in adherence with local electrical fire and safety codes in order to maintain equipment in good working order and limit the opportunity for incurring major repair bills;
Monitor central utility plant including auxiliary and related equipment and water treatment by checking all major mechanical controls confirming they are in good working order to ensure a comfortable environment for clients;
Inspect all central equipment and Life Safety equipment, which includes testing of fire protection devices and auxiliary/emergency power systems on a regular basis and report any problems or unusual findings to supervisor in order to minimize damage and cost of repair to all building equipment. Test fuel systems as well;
Respond to clients’ concerns regarding HVAC, electrical, plumbing and general repair issues by solving problems or making recommendations as required in order to reduce repair costs and ensure a high level of customer service to clients;
General maintenance of all site mechanical electrical, and other systems (excluding HVACR maintenance except that set out in Appendix “C” of the ORA Non-ICI Service and Maintenance Agreement),;
Report and log keeping of mechanical & electrical systems on a daily basis as required;
Complete all assigned preventative work orders;
Adjust plant to respond to the changing demands;
Operate the Building to maintain maximum efficiency;
Respond to trouble calls;
Stand in;
Provide guidance to Data Centre Operator I;
Other duties as assigned.
Knowledge and Skill Requirements:
Minimum 3-5 years’ Data Centre experience required;
Minimum 5 years’ experience required in physical plant operations, HVAC and other related equipment;
Must be able to work 12 hour shifts (days)
Strong ability to work efficiently under pressure;
Must hold the qualification of a Data Centre Operator I with the additional qualifications/qualities;
Thorough knowledge of general maintenance procedures, current technology, electrical/mechanical systems and blueprint reading & comprehension;
Strong verbal and written communication skills;
Strong interpersonal skills;
Good mechanical and electrical troubleshooting abilities;
Good problem-solving skills;
Practical judgment and decisive manner.
