Position : Deputy Chief County Attorney of Child Abuse and Neglect Division
Job Description : Works at the direction of the County Attorney and in conjunction with the Chief Deputy to supervise attorneys and coordinate support staff in all divisions. Focus is on the management and coordination of staff and attorneys in the Child Abuse and Neglect Division. This classification has been designated as a non-classified, non-merit system position. This is an appointed position serving the County Attorney, an elected official.Manages, supervises, and directs activities in the Child Abuse and Neglect Division; Represents or assigns and supervises casework at the trial, appellate, or sentence review level; makes direct recommendations and advises the County Attorney as to legislative matters important to the justice system;Prosecutes criminal offenses in the District and Youth Court systems and may argue felony and misdemeanor appeals before the appellate courts;Reviews files, screens law enforcement reports, may investigate crime scenes, and interviews social workers, law enforcement officers, victims, and witnesses; acts as a direct liaison with the County governing body, the Montana Attorney General, and the District and Justice Courts;Evaluates cases under investigation by law enforcement agencies and DPHHS regarding the existence, nature, and degree of offenses; sets policy for the County Attorney’s Office regarding relationship with DPHHS;Manages the Division and ensures staff have the resources and training necessary to perform their assigned duties; acts as a direct teacher and mentor for less-experienced attorneys;Juris Doctorate; must posses a valid membership in the Montana State Bar Association;Five (5) years’ experience practicing law, criminal litigation, and/or local government law; orAny equivalent combination of experience, education, and training totaling ten (10) years.Valid driver’s license issued by the State of MontanaJob Type: Full-timePay: $114,146.40 per yearBenefits:Dental insuranceFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceHealth savings accountLife insurancePaid time offRetirement planTuition reimbursementVision insuranceSchedule:Monday to FridayWork Location: One location
