The Digital Content & Marketing Specialist works under the direction of the Community Engagement and Communications Manager to coordinate City-wide communications and marketing efforts within the Communications division and for specific assigned departments or divisions, with emphasis on the Parks and Recreation Department; coordinates social media calendar and content across digital assets. Coordinates the execution of the City’s content calendar in cooperation with the Communications team and department / division liaisons. Provides support for integrated communications campaigns to support City vision and strategic communications plan.
Must be able to work a flexible schedule including some evenings, weekends and non-traditional business hours.

JOB SUMMARY

Responsible for the timely development, creation, and dissemination of internal and external content, including but not limited to:

Serves as the point person to ensure cross-channel coordination, support and messaging across all City digital assets.
Provides structure for the City’s social media channels, and creates and manages content calendar.
Works with the Communications team to create messaging to build proactive communications, community outreach, and engagement across social media channels.
Creates content for posting to social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Instagram, NextDoor, etc.) to best reach and engage community members and visitors of Golden.
Researches, develops, and implements communications strategies on new and emerging digital platforms.
Supports in the creation of and manages file structure that stores content including video and photo files in a comprehensive, clear, and easily utilized manner.
Tracks all project analytics and provides monthly reports.
Works with the Recreation Division to provide marketing and communications support to:

Build and execute public information and marketing campaigns,
Coordinate with Communications team to integrate Recreation programs appropriately across communications channels,
Manage Recreation social media channels, including public information response.

Works with Recreation division and other City departments as assigned to create and fine tune content for presentations, posters, articles, etc.
Has the ability to serve in other roles in the absence of other Communications staff.
Assists with promotion and implementation of public information campaigns, events, and other needs as assigned.
Works with Graphic Designer to help City departments create print and digital promotional materials.

Assists with other key projects assigned by the Communications Manager.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

May oversee the work of interns and volunteers as approved by the Communications Manager.

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism, Communications, Public Administration, Media Relations, Marketing, or related field. Minimum 2 years prior experience in social media content creation, writing, editing, public information, and or public relations experience. Government communications experience a plus.

Any equivalent combination of training and experience that demonstrates the applicant possesses the necessary traits and skill required for the position may be considered as substitution for degree.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS

Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

LANGUAGE SKILLS
Ability to read, analyze and interpret written and oral communications well enough to identify potential problems, make necessary edits and notify Communications Manager as necessary. Ability to make effective and persuasive presentations intended for the general public, citizen groups, elected officials and employees. Ability to communicate effectively with others to capture their needs in multimedia projects.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Must possess the mathematical aptitude to understand and communicate complex municipal finance issues graphically.

REASONING ABILITY
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS
Valid driver’s license with good driving record.

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Working knowledge of municipal government helpful. Must be a high-energy self-starter. Must be flexible, able to work independently and meet strict deadlines.

Ability to pay strict attention to details and timelines.

All general office and computer equipment.
