Job Overview

The Director, Volunteers & Family Support Services oversees the development and execution of strategies, programs and services to include the functions of Volunteer Services, Visitor Management, Medical Interpretation, and PBX operators. The Director, Volunteers & Family Support Services collaborates with organizational leaders to develop and deploy initiatives that support patients and families while ensuring alignment of programming and initiatives to operational strategies for the Southern Colorado region.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential functions. These examples do not include all of the functions which the employee may be expected to perform.

Develops strategic plan, annual goals, and performance metrics for Volunteers and Family Support Services functions in Southern Colorado; develops and implements plans for aligning functions to operational vision and strategy. Develops annual work plans focused on the coordination, evaluation, and delivery of services provided to patients and families.

Participates in Southern Colorado leadership activities, contributing to the achievement of goals and objectives; evaluates functional performance. Collaborates with organizational leaders to develop strategic and operational initiatives that support patients and families.

Reviews and approves changes to internal processes; identifies and implements process improvements. Reviews and approves customer service standards established by leaders; handles operational and customer service escalations for Volunteers and Family Support Services. Serves as a champion of enterprise-wide culture, influencing culture change to support operational objectives.

Manages communications to the organization on strategy, projects and hot topics related to Volunteers and Family Support Services. Maintains effective working relationships with peers in division, peers in other divisions, and senior leadership. Develops and maintains strong collaborative relationships with the Association of Volunteers and with the Children’s Hospital Colorado Foundation.

Assigns and reviews annual goals for Volunteers and Family Support Services; provides work instruction (OTJ or formal training) and develops leaders and team members. Evaluates performance of leaders and team members, providing continuous feedback. Manages discipline and performance issues; hires and fires leaders. Reviews and approves resource plans for functions.

Carries financial management responsibility for Volunteers and Family Support Services, developing budget recommendations and monitoring budget.

Works on highly complex or controversial projects; performs project management activities. Provides technical expertise on programs, processes, and best practices.

Ensures compliance against federal, state, and local regulations for Volunteers and Family Support Services.

Function as part of the Southern Colorado leadership team, serving as Administrator on Call.

Expert knowledge in principles of communication: verbal and written, to deal with all levels of personnel.
Excellent customer service skills with hospital/ clinic staff, children, parents, and visitors.
Solid knowledge of computer use and software to include MS office and other software used for hospital operations.
Skill in developing and maintain effective working relationships with personnel.
Ability to demonstrate expertise in leading high-performing, cross-functional teams, as well as project and change management efforts
Ability to prioritize and organize tasks in a fast-paced setting.
Ability to work independently and as a team member.
Ability to analyze financial information to forecast operational budgets, setting department unit goals and workforce planning.
Ability to utilize motivational techniques to develop leadership and decision-making within the department

SCOPE AND LEVEL

Guidelines: Guidelines are in the form of stated vision and objectives for the division.
Complexity: Work assignment is unstructured, and leader is responsible for developing, directing, and managing outcomes and multi-year strategies in order to achieve the objectives of the operation. Duties performed include operational planning; developing standards, priorities, guidelines, processes, measurement (evaluation) systems; implementation of production and performance management standards; and allocating resources. Work is strategic and operational in nature.
Decision Making: Employee is responsible for managing multiple functions that requires developing and implementing strategies, business plans, and policies; determining required resources; defining and evaluating performance standards; and resolving complex business problems.
Communications: Communication at this level is internally and externally focused. Involves establishing and maintaining effective, collaborative working relationships with team members, peers, and executives. Provides information and negotiates solutions to functional issues that have major consequences or long-term significance.
Supervision Received: Under executive direction, the employee is delegated personal responsibilities and authorities over a division (or functional area within). Executives may review work for soundness of judgment and conclusion.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in business administration, healthcare administration or a directly related field.
Experience: Five years of healthcare experience, to include three years of leadership experience.
Equivalency: Four years of healthcare experience above and beyond the minimum experience requirement can substitute for a bachelor’s degree.
Preferred: Candidates who have experience with planning and coordinating events

Salary Information Annual Salary Range (Based on 40 hours worked per week): $92,645.16 to $154,408.60
Hourly Salary Range: $44.54 to $74.23
