Join us, and share your story.*Job Summary: *Reporting directly to the Editorial Director, the Editorial Assistant is responsible for providing administrative support for the Editorial Director as well as the MIRA Books publishing program, and for obtaining an understanding of the publishing business. The Editorial Assistant is a front-line contact for the Editorial team, and assists in positively portraying the company to external sources.Responsibilities:Provides administrative assistance to the Editorial Director and MIRA editorial team, including but not limited to, updating and/or maintaining internal systems, drafting correspondence, coordinating required documents, preparing travel arrangements, generating reports, etc.Completes first screen for manuscripts and query letters submitted as needed.Reads and provides feedback on manuscript submissions as needed.Prepares and coordinates manuscript production and cover materials.Prepares book-related sales materials, including fact sheets.Prepares contract forms and processes payments.Liaises with authors and agents.Manages backlist programs that fall under the MIRA purview, and works with the relevant marketing teams to develop schedules, packaging and assets.Acts as the front-line contact for the department by screening requests or messages from external parties such as authors/agents, unsolicited author/agent calls, providing information when known or referring to the proper source.Provides administrative assistance to the department, including but not limited to requesting ISBNs, managing the schedule and schedule changes, generating reports, ordering books, flowers etc.Contributes to the imprint’s social media accounts.Provides additional assistance to team as needed.Qualifications: Specific training or job experience required includes:Undergraduate degree in English.Some previous administrative experience.Post-secondary publishing diploma is an asset.1-year experience in the publishing industry an asset.*Competencies/Skills: *Competencies and skills required to perform this job include:The ability to manage execution, to prioritize, to pay close attention to detail, and to multi-task.Strong communication, planning, organizational, teamwork, and problem-solving skills.Creativity, decisiveness, functional/technical knowledge, computer knowledge, adaptability/flexibility, resourcefulness, professionalism, a drive for results.Interest in books and reading, particularly the genres published by the imprint.*What’s in It For You?*The opportunity to be part of a company on the leading edge of publishing, working with a very talented team and exceptional booksRemote work, flexible start/stop timesPaid time off days and vacation allotment, starting at three weeks (prorated based on start date)Flexible benefit plans to fit your needs and pension matchingVarious virtual social activities to keep you connected – we love trivia!Virtual author events and access to discounted booksWorking with passionate people!*About HarperCollins Canada and Harlequin*Harlequin is a leading publisher of commercial fiction and narrative nonfiction.
