STATEMENT OF DUTIES

General Statement Of Duties: Provides individual case management and coordination of family-related matters including domestic relations, domestic violence, dependency and neglect and delinquency cases before the courts.
Distinguishing Factors: The person in this position will assist the court and parties managing domestic and/or juvenile cases in a timely and effective manner.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Responsibilities for case management to include conducting status conferences and assisting parties with identification of disputed issues and options for resolution. Facilitates the exchange of necessary information and prepares cases for judicial officers.

Assists parties and counsel in understanding court processes and policies.

Provides written and verbal recommendations or status reports to the Court. Requests forthwith hearings and schedules future conferences as necessary.

Expedites case processing with a focus on the family’s needs.

Increases the amount of information available to the court by acting as liaison between parties, attorneys and other professionals and the judicial officers.

Some positions may be responsible for the development of training to educate families and citizens regarding family, economic, psychological and cultural issues influencing the attitudes and behaviors of children and families as they relate to cases before the court.

Some positions may perform legal research and writing.

Attends meetings and training as required.

Performs other duties as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS CONT.

Supervisor Responsibilities: May have supervisory accountability for other employees, volunteers, or interns. Plans, directs and coordinates activities for a unit. Duties may include scheduling and assigning of work, training in all facets of work, quality control, and decisions impacting the pay, status and tenure of others. Conducts performance appraisals, and provides input into and participates in discipline, dismissal, and hiring processes.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum Education: Graduation from an accredited college or university with a bachelor’s degree and three years’ of legal or court experience. Juris doctor degree preferred. Experience in family law preferred.
Physical Demands: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; use hands to perform repetitive motions, talk and hear. The employee is frequently required to walk/move about. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment: The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. May handle emergency or crisis situations; is subject to many interruptions; may handle multiple calls and inquiries simultaneously and may occasionally handle absentee replacement on short notice.
