Job Description : About Congregation Neveh ShalomCongregation Neveh Shalom is a Conservative Jewish synagogue in Northwest Portland. Our mission is to foster and preserve an inclusive, authentic, and engaging experience of Conservative Judaism in the Pacific Northwest. Through meaningful lifecycle events, spiritual, educational, and social experiences, we become our best selves, strengthen connections to each other, and forge positive change in the world. The congregation also operates a full day preschool and two cemeteries.Position DescriptionThe Finance Director is responsible for providing accurate financial information to the Executive Director and Board of Directors for use in decision making. This position directs the financial activities of the congregation, which include being directly responsible for the following duties, in addition to supervising the administrative accounting staff. This position works with all staff members in relation to their department budgets and financial issues.Primary ResponsibilitiesBudget & Finance· Manage financial records and tasks including monthly and quarterly financial reports and preparation of annual budget. Assist all staff with budget accountability, questions and concerns· Design and oversee the operating procedures related to the handling of cash and checks, and other relevant financial controls· Process accounts payable which includes preparing all checks and monitoring expenses against the budget· Monitor and review all deposits regularly· Develop organizational procedures and systems for accounting personnel, including filing, billing, accounts payable, payroll and financial reporting· Maintain financial settings and tables in the synagogue member database, including charge types, payment methods, and syncing with Quickbooks· Oversee the membership dues renewal process each fiscal year· Prepare monthly statements and annual tax letters to congregants and non-member donorsHuman Resources· Process new hires, terminations, benefit and staff changes, etc.· Prepare and submit semi-monthly and monthly payroll with our payroll provider· Maintain timekeeping/attendance records and benefits in accordance with Employee Handbook and individual employee contractsAdministrative· Provide administrative support to Executive Director· Coordinate with volunteer IT support to monitor and maintain staff computer equipment· Coordinate annual renewal process for health insurance and other staff benefits· Collaborate with the administrative team to foster good communication and teamworkRequired Skills/Experience· Minimum of 5 years related Accounting experience· Minimum of 2 years’ experience in a management/supervisory role· Demonstrates effective written and verbal communication· Exhibits strong collaborative skills in daily interactions and decision-making· Computer proficiency required, including knowledge of Excel, Word, experience with accounting software systems· Ability to maintain confidentiality with congregant’s personal and financial information and Congregation Neveh Shalom’s proprietary property and information.Desired Skills· Experience with non-profit financial reporting· Experience with Quickbooks, as well as ShulCloud or other CRM or member management databaseSalary and benefits- The anticipated annual salary range for this position is $65,000 – $75,000, depending on experience and qualifications.- Generous paid time off policy and holiday schedule, including Jewish holidays- Comprehensive Medical, Vision and Dental insurance coverage with Providence- 403(b) retirement savings plan, with 9% employer contribution after 1 year of service (no match required)- Employer paid short term disability, long term disability, and life insuranceCongregation Neveh Shalom is an equal opportunity employer and does not discriminate on the basis of race, creed, color, sex, national origin, marital status, sexual orientation, religious affiliation, disability or any other classification considered discriminatory under applicable law.This description is intended to provide a snapshot of the work performed and is not designed to contain a comprehensive inventory of all duties, responsibilities, and qualifications required of the position.Job Type: Full-timePay: $65,000.00 – $75,000.00 per yearBenefits:Dental insuranceFlexible scheduleFlexible spending accountHealth insuranceLife insurancePaid time offRetirement planVision insuranceSchedule:Monday to FridayEducation:Associate (Preferred)Experience:Accounting: 5 years (Preferred)Work Location: One location
