Destination Pet is looking for an experienced Head of Corporate Development to lead our growth strategy to support our rapidly growing business. Reporting directly to the CFO, and partnering closely with the executive team, this role is responsible for leading and coordinating all M&A activity companywide to advance Destination Pet’s corporate development strategy and maximize shareholder value and enhance long-term capital growth.
Key responsibilities include:

Spearheading the end-to-end, cross-functional deal process, from initial diligence to closing, including business case building, financial analysis, valuation and transaction structuring, and executive presentations, including managing the integration team
Researching and helping the team to align on optimal target markets and assessing new opportunities for organizational growth, evaluating potential growth opportunities and geographic expansions in line with the organization’s overall strategy and vision
Managing M&A and strategic investment pipeline
Monitoring competitive intelligence in existing, adjacent, and new markets to influence internal strategic planning
Hosting weekly meetings with cross-functional leadership team to build consensus on target opportunities and valuation
Managing the strategic planning process, along with the senior leadership team, including Board and earnings presentations, ad-hoc initiatives, annual planning process, and annual offsites
Leading a variety of strategic efforts including formulating short-, medium- and long-term strategic plans in partnership with the senior leadership team
Will have certain responsibility of post acquisition performance given importance of integration, which will be managed by this group and effective hand-off to operations

We are looking for:

15+ years of Corporate Development experience, preferably in a pet/vet or health care industry or a highly fragmented industry with smaller revenue acquisition targets (e.g., dental, physician groups, retail, HVAC, etc.
Experiencing leading M&A in a private equity-backed company
Deep experience with financial analysis and modeling, corporate, business, and legal due diligence, deal structuring and negotiations, and integration planning
Strong partnering and leadership skills in a matrixed environment
Impeccable business judgment and strong analytical and reasoning skills regarding technical, contractual and financial issues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and a high degree of comfort communicating with and influencing senior executives
Strong management skills along with the ability to roll up sleeves and act as high performing individual contributor if needed
Self-starter, who is comfortable working with ambiguity
Proven ability to manage complex projects spanning a variety of business, finance, operations, legal, tax and capital markets issues
Thriving in a fast-paced setting that is constantly evolving
A high level of integrity and dependability, with a strong sense of urgency and a results-orientation
