Job Description : SPECIAL INFORMATION:
A criminal background check is required for the successful applicant.
An employee new to the Judicial Branch will serve a one-year probationary period.
Nature of Work:
This is professional library and administrative work in the State Law Library. Work involves providing circulation and referral services to library patrons. Work is performed independently under the supervision of the State Law Librarian and Library Access Specialist and is reviewed for adherence to established procedures on a periodic or as-needed basis.
Essential Functions: (Any one position may not include all the duties listed, nor do the examples cover all the duties which may be performed.)
Opens and closes the library.
Provides customer service to library patrons, including providing directional and circulation assistance to patrons in person, by telephone, mail, or email; greets and directs or refers library patrons and callers; responds to routine requests for information; refers more complex or sensitive inquiries to other library staff.
Checks materials in and out for patrons; searches for materials; assists with the preparation of overdue material lists and notifications.
Receives, receipts and records payments; maintains adequate cash for making change.
Enters information into computer databases.
Photocopies, scans, and faxes materials.
Assists with sorting mail, preparing materials for mailing, and completing mailing.
Assists with organizing, updating, sorting, filing, and moving library materials.
Assists with maintaining library supplies.
Assists other library staff with special projects.
Assists in the formation of library policies and procedures.

Working Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in a library environment.
Physical Demands:
Work requires frequent sitting, walking, standing, reaching, bending, climbing stairs, and standing on a stool. Lifting books and other reference materials weighing less than 25 pounds is required as well as moving a cart with many books loaded on it. Work requires extended periods of computer use.

Qualifications:

Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:
Knowledge of computer hardware and software, which may include word processing, spreadsheet, and database software.
Knowledge of general library classification systems and services.
Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions. Ability to carry out duties with minimal supervision.
Ability to communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing, with a diverse group of people.
Ability to work effectively with the public and other library staff in a professional manner.
Ability to deal with upset or angry patrons in a calm manner.
Ability to operate a computer, photocopier, and other modern office equipment.

Qualifications: (Any combination of training and work experience which indicates possession of the knowledge, abilities and skills listed above. An example of an acceptable qualification for this position is:)
Possession of a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university with coursework in library science, information services or media services and experience in a library. Combination of experience may substitute for degree.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
None required.
