The Denver Public Library (DPL) is a growing urban library system that serves the City & County of Denver. This is an exciting opportunity to help shape our newest location of the Denver Public Library through the development and implementation of a co-located, creative-focused branch model with our values of Connection, Curiosity, Equity, Stewardship and Welcoming in action. The park buildings and our partner non-profits, Redline Art Gallery and Focus Points, will serve as an equitable and public community hub that celebrates art, innovation, education, small business, and community empowerment for the surrounding neighborhoods. This location will welcome all community members customers to use the collection, community spaces, and technology. The Denver Zine Library will be housed for at least one year on the 2nd level. There are four community rooms for small and large groups. Collaborating daily with our ArtPark partners and other community organizations through proximity and strong outreach.
Become a Library Program Assistant at Denver Public Library’s newest branch, ArtPark , in the Five Points Neighborhood part of the RiNo Arts District and along the Platte River Trail. You will create positive experiences for library customers by providing programming and outreach, designed to educate and promote library usage, to a wide variety of audiences. You will implement library services and resources including intergenerational and bilingual programming to a diverse customer base, including early literacy outreach to children between the ages of 0-5 years and give storytimes in both English and Spanish. You will design dynamic outreach and programming opportunities, implement library services to a diverse customer base, and strengthen community connections. This role provides assistance in providing community access to a wide variety of library services and represents the Denver Public Library to stakeholders and the community. You will often assist customers with questions, provide resources, offer readers advisory and help navigate technology, perform clerking and shelving duties. In this role, you will work collaboratively with other staff and library branch locations to identify library outreach needs in the ArtPark service area, assist in the planning and participation in special events, and utilize mobile tools, to increase library presence in the community. You will develop and maintain strong and lasting partnerships with community partners and work directly with community members to understand and deliver on their library needs.

Knowledge and experience with developing and presenting storytimes for young children as well as adult programming

Ability to demonstrate positive attitude, excellent interpersonal skills, cultural sensitivity and a sense of humor in working with customers, coworkers and community
Ability to creatively solve problems, negotiate and handle stressful situations in a positive manner
Knowledge of presenting and providing library services to customers with varying levels of experience and knowledge
Ability to create and maintain positive relationships with customers, staff and the community
Knowledge of programming
Skill in presenting information to a diverse range of ages and cultures, individually and in groups
Skill in choosing appropriate materials for programming and outreach.
Ability to facilitate group conversations
Ability to relate to the needs of customers of all ages and skill levels, including those without English language proficiency

A Bachelor’s degree in a related field of study (additional appropriate experience may be substituted for the education requirement)
Two years of experience teaching or presenting information to children and their caregivers preferred
Spanish language fluency (strongly preferred, not required)
Reliable transportation

OTHER THINGS YOU SHOULD KNOW:

The schedule will be determined by the needs of the department and will include evening and weekend hours. This position could be reassigned temporarily or permanently to another branch based on system wide staffing needs.
