The school opened in 2014 and graduated its first senior class in 2020. Our middle school classroom is multi-age with students in sixth through eighth grades. While Big Sky Discovery Academy is not accredited by the state of Montana, our multi-age, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth grade classroom works with the University of Nebraska High School (UNHS): a college-prep high school offering quality education and academic services to students. Discovery Academy teachers supplement the online-based learning with high levels of support and supervision, and work with students to develop course-completion schedules that focus on mastery of content.Position Description: The Middle/High School Spanish Teacher is an essential member of the Discovery Academy team and works directly with the Upper School Director and other teaching staff. All members of the teaching staff are responsible to plan and implement a personalized learning experience for middle and high school students. The Spanish teacher will develop lesson plans and curricula based on the needs of individual students, provide conversational and grammar-based classes, teach writing, and assess students’ oral and written language skills. Discovery Academy staff also serve as mentors to meet students’ individual needs and develop their interests and abilities as they begin to prepare for life after high school. We focus on creating a respect for self, others, and the environment, as well as a growth mindset for promoting student engagement in their learning. Other duties may be assigned by the Upper School Director or Head of School according to the needs of the school.Qualifications:We are seeking an energetic, dedicated, highly motivated, and creative educator who has a strong background in Spanish language and culture, project-based learning, assessment, curriculum development, and implementing an online curriculum. The candidate must prove written and verbal proficiency in Spanish. Native Spanish speakers are encouraged to apply; previous teaching experience is preferred. The candidate should have a strong interest in creating a classroom culture of academic excellence, student engagement, growth mindset, and an individualized mastery-based classroom and school community. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching a multi-age classroom setting, working with middle and high school students, and utilizing multi-faceted resources. Additionally, candidates must demonstrate a willing flexibility to adapt to new ideas, a dynamic school culture, and collaborative lesson planning.
